Education starts with us when we start our life journey.

From the very first moment, a baby steps

into this world, she/he starts to learn. India has emerged as a global leader and a strong nation.
Education is the key to the task of nation building as well as to provide requisite knowledge and
skills required for sustained growth of the economy and to ensure overall progress. With the
enactment of the Right to Education as a fundamental right, education is being positioned as
central to the national project of creating a more equitable and just society. Attempts are being
made to re-establish the relationship between school and society, and the critical role of
education in enabling social transformation, an idea central to the earliest policy formulations of
independent India

The future of India will be fashioned in her classrooms. While India has made great strides in
improving her education system, much still remains to be done.

The problems of shortage of resources and lack of political will, education system suffers from
massive gaps including high pupil to teacher ratios, shortage of infrastructure and poor levels of
teacher training. Enrollment has been enhanced, but the levels of quality remain low. Some other
major issues are low women literacy rate, lack of vocational education and training, India has the
lowest public expenditure on higher education per student in the world.

Various methods must be employed to impart knowledge to bring variety and interest to the
student. Education should be aural, by listening, lectures etc, visual with slides, videos, pictures
and hands on experience to be truly meaningful. Communication and other relevant skills should
also be taught.

Education is not only about learning and gaining knowledge. It is also about moral values and
ethics that every individual should follow to live in harmony with others. The importance of
values, sex education and all round development of the person should be the aim of education.
Sport activities and other cultural activities like music, dance and drama should be given equal
importance as subject studies for overall personality and character development.

All the positive steps taken till now are welcome. However, implementation of the initiatives is a
key to success. These are some points that the nation will have to consider upon. The Vision and
Mission of Education for all will have to inculcate and imbibe in one and all. Reform in
education is a cultural, political, financial and administrative challenge. The children of today are
to be the citizens of tomorrow. We as a citizen of today will able to provide a slate to every child
and a pen to write his/her own future.

I want to quote the words of American philosopher, and educational reformer John Dewey. He
said: Education is not preparation for life, education is life itself.

Thank You.
