You are on page 1of 3

You have exactly 1 year of time to prepare for gate 2018.

(you have ample time)

Print out the syllabus and collect standard books for each subject.

Download all previous year papers and analyze the types of questions asked.

Make a strict time table and your main study hours should be in morning only, because gate exam times
are also in morning time.

Divide your day into 3 equal parts, like 24 hours into 8,8,8 hours.

8 hours for sleeping ( 12 to 6 am) and 2 hours in afternoon.

8 hours for study. ( 8 to 12pm) & (4 to 6 pm ) & ( 10 to 12am).

8 hours for your time.( Hygiene, eating, webisodes etc)

In first 9 months complete the full syllabus and in last three months practice all previous year question
papers and give test series conducted by various institutes.

If you want you can increase study time in last months.one should have full command on formulas and
concepts.

You can watch NPTEL lectures conducted by different IIT's and make notes.

If you want handwritten notes then go to Kulkarni notes on Google.

Practice practice practice & hope for best.

Preparation of gate depends on the following things.

Concepts

Application of formulaes.

Now , you have to just find a source through which you can learn the concepts and a source from which
numericals can be practiced.

For self preparing students there are three sources.

Made easy notes (most important)

Nptel

Standard books.

Analyse the syllabus first and swe how much you know. Decide your strong and weak subjects. Honestly
decide your status. Means how much you need to work on yourself.

Prepare a timeline for each and every subject. There should be limited time allotted to each subject
based on priorities.

You have to read all the subjects. Don't leave anything. Before starting any subject , take a look at made
easy notes and you will know how much to study and which topics to leave.

For concepts you can use nptel or standard books. It's on you. After reading the concepts , go through
those made easy notes and cram every formulae , understand it's application and units used.
Practice numericals from books , when you are confident then only attempt the previous year
questions. If you are able to solve 70 percent of the numericals , you are on right track.

Revise again and again. This is the most Important thing while preparing. Revise as much as you can
daily.

THe main problem in self preparation is that we give too much time on only subjects and forget that we
have to complete all of them.

Gate has become a formulae oriented exam now and you have to practice numericals as there are about
30 questions every year in which no options are given. It's not an objective exam anymore.

Where we fail is that we want to achieve all the levels of the game in one try , but that rarely happens.
Atleast not with me. We try once and fail , we start thinking may be its not my thing. Thats where we
commit mistakes. To get new levels you have to revise it again And again . Trust me everytime you will
see new things. Its boring but thats the way its done.

So my strategy is to revise And revise again. Practice is the key.

Devote your time to it and you can be anything.

Good luck.
