Narrative

With pop music being arguably the most popular genre in the UK ,punk,
rock and alternative rock and artists from many other genres are being
less played in the media and starting to get lost in the blind sight of this
generation. However many people have not forgotten the impact that
these genres had and have been influenced by them through fashion,
mood and many other ways.

Punk bands created fast, hard- edged music known typically for short
songs, politically based and anti establishment lyrics. With punk
becoming such a major phenomenon in the United Kingdom, a sub-
culture emerged, with the rebellious youth characterizing and
expressing their emotions through distinctive styles of clothing and an
anarchist approach on society.

People pushed the boundaries of fashion, graphics and design. Punk

raw and freshness divided young and the older generation in two. It
provoked the established and soon became seen by older people as a
threat to society.

Punk stood against everything that was conventional with its Do-it-
yourself attitude towards fashion and music. The distressed look
became a punk-staple that most people over 21 could not understand.

It wasnt just punk that influenced peoples clothing styles, alternative

rock bands such as Joy Division, New Order and My bloody valentine all
served a huge impact on people who were lost in society.

I met up with Magnus, a Student at Henley College whos been heavily

influenced by rock and post-punk genres.

I spoke to Joel, whose style has been influenced by bands such as the
talking heads and Jimi Hendrix.

As weve just seen, rock, punk and alternate music have made a strong
influence to Joel and Magnuss styles as they feel that their type of
music relates to their clothing, which makes them happy and gives them
a drive to be who they want to be and do what they want to do.

I also interviewed Henry, an also unique individual, with a select clothing

style and a passion for menswear and music.

Contingency Plan
Not having an interviewee who is able to film:

If I have an interviewee who is not able to film on the day, for example Eddie on Tuesday the 17 th of
May I will be able to get a backup interviewee as I have also talked to many other people who would
be willing for me to film them if he or others are not available.

Also if it will be raining at my locations for example Rother field greys I also have locations I could use
if that happens such as my house, at the interviewees house or just record a voiceover with B-roll of
live bands over the top which is equally as good.

If my camera runs out of storage I will bring an extra SD which I have and if the camera runs out of
battery I will also bring an additional battery.
