GoalandObjective:
Thegoalofthislearningcentreistoprovideopportunitiesforstudentstopracticetheir
knowledgeaboutgoodsandservices.Throughthiscentre,studentswillenhancetheir
understandingofthedifferencesbetweengoodsandserviceswithsomereallifeexamplesof
each.ThislearningcentrefocusesoncoveringoutcomesfoundfromUnit4inYouandYour
WorldcenteredonCommunity.Theactivitieschosenforthiscentrearedesignedtotarget
curricularoutcomes1.4.6Studentswillbeexpectedtodemonstrateanunderstandingof
howcommunitiesdependoneachotherfortheexchangeofgoodsandserviceswith
elaborationonrecognizingthedifferencebetweengoodsandservices.
ProcedureforCentreManagement:
Theprocedureofthislearningcentrepackagewillbecenteredaroundthebackdrop
whichwillcontainthesortinggoodsandservicesactivity.Thelearningcentrewillbeginwithall
studentsworkingtogethertosortthegoodsandservicesonthebackdrop,thenthegroupingof
goodsandserviceswillremainonthebackdropthroughouttherestofthecentreinorderfor
studentstorefertoitduringotheractivities.
CreateaTown,CardGame,CreateaPersonandGoodsandServicesactivitysheetwill
befoundorganizedinbucketswithallmaterialsandinstructionsincluded.Thehopscotchgame
willneedtobesetupbeforethecentrebeginsandthematerialsandinstructionswillbefoundin
abucketfortheteachertogetready.
Therewillbebasicinstructionsforthestudentstorefertoduringeachactivity,however
theteachershouldbrieflyexplaineachactivitybeforebeginning.Oncetheteacherhasexplained
allcentres,shewillconductthegoodsandservicessortingcentretogetherasagroup.Oncethe
goodsandservicesaregroupedtogether,shewilldividetheclassintrogroupsof46andassign
eachgrouptoadifferentcentre.Theteacherwillcirculatetheclassensuringthatallstudents
areunderstandinghowtoconducteachactivityandtoansweranyquestions.
Eachcentrewillbeadurationofapproximately610minutes,dependingontheamount
oftimeintheperiod.Onceacentrehasended,studentsmustputtheircompletedactivityinthe
finishedbucketbeforetheygototheirnextcentre.Theteacherwillguidethegroupstogo
clockwisetogettotheirnextcentre.

Hopscotch Assessmentforthisactivitywillbedoneby

Hopscotch
Instructions
- Make two teams.
- One person from each team will start the hopscotch.
- When you get to the end, pick up a card.
- If the card is a good, put it in the goods square.
- If the card is a service, put it in the service square.
- Run back to the end of the line.
- The next person in line goes.
- Once your team has gone through all the cards in your bucket,
your team has won!
Materials
- Scotch Tape
- Two buckets
- Two sets of cards of goods and services
- Label for goods square
- Label for services sqare
Instructions
- Teacher will explain the difference between a good and a service
by giving examples.
- Raise your hand if you want to volunteer to put a card on either
the goods or services side.
- Teacher will ask class if we sorted everything correctly.
Materials
- Tri-fold display board
- Velcro
- Images of goods and services
- Paint
- Glue
- Scissors
Instructions
- Choose to work in partners or as a group.
- One person flips a card over at a time.
- Each person says if they think the person gives a good or a
service.
- Give a reason for your choice.
- Next person flips a card.
- Continue until you go through all cards.
Materials
- Internet for pictures
- Printer
- Scissors
- Clear tape or laminator
Instructions:
Student friendly
- Take an I Can sheet
- Choose a good or service from the bulletin board.
- Draw yourself as that community worker.
- Write yourself a business card
Teacher Friendly
- Students will complete the worksheet provided. They will identify
2 goods and 2 services, and choose one that they like the most.
- The students will then use construction paper to make a person
who represents the good or service they have.
- When they are finished creating their person, they will then use a
cue card to make a business card.
- The students will complete the activity once they attach their
business card to their drawing.
Materials:
- Activity worksheet
- Pencils
- Construction paper
- Crayons/markers/pencil crayons
- Scissors
- Cue cards
Instructions:
Student Friendly
- Choose a good or service.
- Create a building for your good or service.
- Decorate your building to show off your good or service
- Add your building to the class city.
Teacher Friendly
- Either have students choose their own good or service or provide
students with a good or service.
- Students will create a building for the good or service they have
using construction paper.
- The students can then decorate the building to best represent
their good or service.
- When they are finished, the building will be added to the city.
The city can be made by using bristol board and marker.
- Once all the students are done, the town will be filled with
different goods and services.
Materials:
- Role cards
- Construction paper
- Markers/Crayons/Pencil Crayons
- Glue/Tape
- Bristol Board
Instructions:
Student friendly
- Lay out the board game.
- Pick your game piece.
- Play rock, paper, scissors for who goes first
- Roll dice and move the same number of spaces.
- Pick up a card and read aloud.
- Follow the instructions on the card.
- First one to the end wins.
Teacher friendly:
- Have the board game and all the pieces provided for the
students.
- Students will follow the instructions on the sheet that came with
the board game.
