3. Board connection management (pLAN)

The pLAN network identifies a physical connection between the pCOEM boards, the external terminals and the expansion drivers.
pLAN=p.CO L.ocal A.rea N.etwork. The objective of the pLAN board connection is to exchange variables with each other, using a logic defined by the
programme, in order to make them work together in a functional manner.
The variables exchanged among the boards have already been defined by the programme, as well as to their destination and origin, and as such cannot be set by
the user, who must only carry out the electrical attachments.
The scheme with all pLAN component connections is described below:

pCOOEM TERMINAL EVD200

3. Select the desired language using the UP or DOWN keys;
4. Press ENTER to confirm.

5. Initial switch-on
After checking the connections between the various boards and terminals, supply tension to the pCOOEM board(s). When the machine is switched on, the
software will automatically install the default factory values chosen by CAREL for all configuration parameters. This section explains how to reset the default
values and restore initial conditions. On the initial switch-on it is therefore not necessary to carry out this operation.
The procedure described below resets all configuration parameters to their original values chosen by CAREL.
WARNING! This procedure will irreversibly delete any programming input by the user.
Restoring factory values is an operation concerning each pCOOEM board. In the case of more than one board, this must be repeated for each board. The
procedure is identical for all boards. The procedures are as follows:
Press menu and prog keys on the LCD terminal at the same time (enter the builder branch with a PGD0 terminal). The LED over the menu key should
light up, as well as the one above prog;
Type in the password by using the arrow keys and press enter to access the manufacturer configuration branch:

+--------------------+
Manufacturer Z0
password
0000

+--------------------+
enter Initialisation:
+--------------------+
Insert password V0
to install
default values 0000

+--------------------+
press enter to position the cursor over the field and set the password (default 1234); the message please wait will appear immediately and disappear
after a few seconds: at this point the default values are correctly installed.

8. Masks
The masks are divided into categories:
USER masks that are not protected by a password: they can be found in all branches apart from PROG and MENU+PROG and show probe values,
alarm status, device functioning times, the time and date, and allow to set temperature and humidity set points and adjust the clock. They are
indicated by the W symbol in the successive parameters table.
USER masks that are protected by a password (1234, can be modified): access by pressing PROG. They allow to set main functions (times, set,
differentials) of connected devices; the masks that refer to functions that are not available are not visualised. They are indicated by the Xsymbol in
the successive parameters table.
ASSISTANCE masks that are protected by a password (1234, can be modified): access by pressing the MAINTENANCE KEY. They allow periodical
control of the devices, calibration of the connected probes, modification of functioning times and manual management of the devices. They are
indicated by the Ysymbol in the successive parameters table.
MANUFACTURER mask that are protected by a password (1234, can be modified): access by pressing the MENU+PROG keys. They allow
configuration of the shelter and enabling of the main functions and also the choice of the devices connected. They are indicated by the Zsymbol in
the successive parameters table.

8.1 List of masks

The list of masks visualised on the display follows. The columns in the table represent the mask loops and the first mask (A0, B0) is that which appears by
pressing the corresponding key, the arrow keys can then be used to scroll the others. The codes (Ax, Bx, Cx) are visualised in the top right hand corner of the
mask, they can be easily identified in this way. The meaning of the symbols W, X is explained in the previous paragraph. The PSW symbol indicates the mask
for introduction of the password.

9. Electronic expansion valve EVD200

The EV Driver module for piloting the electronic expansion valves (EEV) for pLAN networks allows adjustment of overheating during suction for a more efficient
and versatile functioning of the refrigeration unit.
The use of an expansion valve leads to the installation of a temperature sensor and pressure transducer, both placed after the evaporator (on the compressor
suction pipes)., along with the EV Driver itself and the expansion valve. See the diagram below to understand the typical plant layout.

The heart of adjustment is a PID control which has a settable co-efficient for overheating.

Adjustment accessories are: LOW (Low overheating with integral time and adjustable threshold)
LOP (Low evaporation pressure, functioning only in transients, with integral time and
adjustable threshold)
MOP (High evaporation pressure, with integral time and adjustable threshold)
HiTcond (High condensation pressure, can be activated only with condensation pressure
probe read by pCO, with integral time and adjustable threshold)

The parameters table describes the adjustment parameters with the thresholds and the default values. The table below explains the meaning of the VALVE TYPE
parameter (see mask F1 F2):

10. Temperature adjustment

The heating and cooling devices are managed on the basis of the temperature value measured by the probe in the environment, compared with the settable set
point.
Settable parameters: temperature set point, proportional band (can be different between hot and cold), neutral zone, freecooling opening start and
end point as a percentage with respect to the proportional band.
Non-settable fixed parameters: switch on and off points of the compressors and resistances with respect to the proportional band.

10.2 Other temperature functions

The high and low temeprature alarms cause a signal with alarm mask and have a delay that can be modified.

The dehumidification stop differential fixes the minimum temperature below that at which dehumidification is suspended. It can re-start if the temperature rises
above the value fixed by the start dehumidification offset; differential and offset can be modified.

10.3 Humidity adjustment

The humidifying and dehumidifying devices are managed on the basis of the humidity values measured by the probe in the environment (or in recovery). This
humidity is compared with the set humidity (set point), and the devices are activated on the basis of the difference. The proportional valve identifies the working
field of the shelter and may take on different humidification and dehumidification values. There is a fixed neutral zone around the set point of 0.2% that identifies a
device non-intervention zone.
Dehumidification takes place either by activating the compressor which can be enabled as desired for this function or by reaching a certain speed for the delivery
fan.
This speed can be modified. The default value is equal to 50% (5.0 V).
Dehumidification is interrupted if the environmental temperature falls too much. The differential and relative offsets can be set. Dehumidification is always
possible if: Environmental Temperature > Set point temperature Neutral Zone Temperature.
The modulating output 010Volt of the supply fan in dehumidification is automatically reduced by 50% (it can be modified);
If the supply fan is managed with digital output (Open/Closed), the supply fan speed will be unvaried in the dehumidification phase.
The diagrams below illustrate the behaviour of the humidification and dehumidification devices.

11. Delivery limits

This function protects the environment from air that is too cold. It is necessary to position a temperature probe on the shelter delivery, enable management of the
probe and specific function and set the following parameters: delivery limit and delivery differential; they identify a restricted area as represented by the following
diagrams.
The delivery limit acts on the request proportional to cold. The action on the devices is therefore the same as that when the environmental temperature lowers,
progressively stopping the devices (see Temperature adjustment paragraph).
NB.: All of the values in the following graphics refer to factory values.

12. Supply fan

The supply fan is always switched on when the unit is ON. It can be managed with ON/OFF output or with modulating output.
There are two alarms regarding the fan, circuit breaker and air low meter, which block the unit automatically placing it in the OFF status; both alarms are re-
armed manually.

12.1 ON/OFF management

The supply fan will be switched on, after a settable delay (default 10 seconds), on switch on of a shelter unit. It will remain active until the unit is switched off. It
is possible to set a fan switch-off delay time with respect to unit switch-off (default 20 s).
In the case of a black-out, the supply fan continues to function, to guarantee air circulation inside the technological environment. In this phase freecooling can
also modulate if suitable conditions are present.

It is possible to set minimum and maximum fan speed. Factory values are 5.0 V and 10.0 V.
Note that in dehumidification the speed is automatically reduced to the minimum value 5.0 V (50%), which can be modified if necessary.
In the case of a black-out the supply fan continues to function, going to 100% of its speed, in order to guarantee air circulation inside the technological
environment. In this phase freecooling can also modulate if suitable conditions are present.

13. Condenser fans

The adjustment of condensation pressure is carried out on the basis of the condensation battery pressure and the status of the compressors. Activation takes
place by means of modulating outputs 010 V. Adjustment is based on the set point and the condensation differential as illustrated below.

It is possible to set the minimum and maximum speed of the condenser fan; whenever the minimum speed set is above 0 V, the fan can function at minimum
speed up to 1.0 bar below the condensation set point before switching off (see broken line part of the graphics above).
If the condensation probe is not enabled, the fan switch on is commanded by the compressor start up.

13.1 Prevent function

Prevention of the high pressure alarm with compressors at a standstill. Normally the condenser fans only switch-on with compressors running, but in this case
they are switched on in a way to lower the pressure and try to prevent the high pressure alarm, which would switch the unit off. There is no modulation in this
phase; the fans are taken immediately to 100% speed.

13.2 Speed-up function

To recover inertia at breakaway of the large-scale modulating fans, it is possible to force them for a few seconds at maximum speed, after which the speed
starts to modulate on the basis of the condensation pressure.

13.3 Pressure tension conversion

It is possible to select both pressure and temperature probes. With pressure probes, the temperature value corresponding to the pressure value of each probe is
stated in the mask of the I/O branch. The type of refrigerant used is taken into consideration with a parameter in the manufacturer branch.

14. Compressor
The compressors are managed as simple ON/OFF loads (see TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT chapter). The maximum number of compressors is 1.

14.1 Times
For compressor safety the following times are envisioned:
minimum switch-on time;
minimum switch-off time;
minimum time between switch-on of the same compressor;

14.2 Compressor alarms

From digital inputs:
General compressor alarm that includes: High pressure/Compressor circuit breaker / Condenser fan circuit breaker;
Low pressure.
If one of the alarm inputs is not to be used, cut it off electrically from the 24 Vac power supply.
For electric connections of alarm digital inputs refer to the pCO1, pCOXS, pCO2 board technical manual.
From analogical input:
High pressure alarm from pressure transducer.

14.2.1 General alarm

(High pressure / Compressor circuit breaker / Condenser fan circuit breaker): immediate alarm caused by an external pressure switch or circuit breaker; the digital
input switches from closed to open and the compressor is switched-off immediately. Re-arm is manual i.e. the user must press the ALARM key on the terminal in
order to re-start the compressor, as long as the pressure switch or the circuit breaker have been re-armed and the digital input has been closed. When the
compressor is off its times are activated, in this way after re-arming of the alarm the compressor might not start-up immediately.

14.2.2 Low pressure

Alarm caused by an external pressure switch: this alarm is ignored for a period of time, set from the mask, from compressor start-up, to give the pressure inside
the circuit time to stabilise itself. If on conclusion of the timer the contact is open, the compressor switches off and the alarm is triggered. If the contact re-closes
before the timer has expired, the alarm is not triggered and the timer is zeroed. Re-arm is manual i.e. the user must press the ALARM key on the terminal in order
to re-start the compressor, as long as the pressure switch has been re-armed and has closed the digital input. When the compressor is off its times are
activated, in this way after re-arming of the alarm the compressor might not start-up immediately.

14.2.3 Interlock
The pCOOEM is provided with an electrical interlock between inputs dedicated to the general alarm and the delivery fan circuit breaker alarm, and for the physical
command exit of the unit itself.

14.2.4 High pressure from transducer

Immediate alarm caused by the detection of a too high pressure in the circuit; it is possible to set the set point and the differential on which the high pressure
alarm trips. Every probe will cause a high pressure alarm that will stop the compressor of the circuit onto which it is installed. If the shelter is made up of 2
compressors but only the probe relative to the first circuit is enabled, the high pressure alarm given by the latter, will stop both compressors. In this case the high
pressure alarm relative to the first and second circuits will be present. Re-arm is manual, i.e. the user must press the ALARM key on the terminal in order to re-
start the compressor, as long as the pressure has fallen below the set point differential. When the compressor is off its times are activated, in this way after re-
arming of the alarm the compressor might not start-up immediately.

15. Resistances
The resistances are managed as simple ON/OFF loads (see TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT chapter). The maximum number of resistances is 1.

15.1 Resistance alarms

Every resistance has a digital input to be connected to a circuit breaker or differential for the signalling of any anomalies.
If one of the inputs is not to be used, it must be removed from the 24 Vac power supply.
The alarm is immediate and takes place when the digital input switches from closed to open; the resistance is switched off immediately. Re-arm is manual, i.e.
the user must press the ALARM key on the terminal in order to re-start the resistance, as long as the circuit-breaker-differential have been re-armed, closing the
digital input. The pCOOEM is provided with an electrical interlock between inputs dedicated to the general alarm and the delivery fan circuit breaker alarm, and for
the physical command exit of the unit itself.

16. Freecooling
In order to save energy it is possible to use air from the outside to cool rooms to be air conditioned. This is possible by means of a shutter that allows entry of air
from the outside, which is colder than the air in the environment.
It must be established if the air outside is cold enough with respect to the environmental temperature in order to carry out freecooling. The difference must be
lower than or equal to a certain value, defined offset freecooling. Modulation of freecooling takes place on the environmental temperature.
It is possible to decide if freecooling can function at the same time as the compressor or if it will function separately. If separate functioning of these devices is
selected, the freecooling shutter will close when the compressor starts-up.
The request for freecooling, decreases proportionally to the fall in temperature of the delivery air (see DELIVERY LIMIT) chapter.
If freecooling is not enabled, due to the causes indicated above, the shutter can maintain a minimum opening, which can be set by the user. Freecooling will
close completely only in the following phases:
shelter switched-off;
external temperature probe broken, not connected or not enabled;
environmental temperature probe broken or not connected;
fire/smoke alarm.
Freecooling is controlled by the modulating probe 010 V (See TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT chapter) or by the digital ON/OFF output.
In the case of a black-out, freecooling continues to function, maintaining, if possible, the introduction of air that is colder than the environment. During this phase
the normal freecooling offset is no longer considered (factory value 2.0 C) but a new offset of 1.0 C, which cannot be modified. In this phase the supply fan also
functions at 100% of its speed.
Even if the compressor/s cannot function due to alarms, the normal freecooling offset is not considered (factory value 2.0 C) but a new offset of 1.0 C which
cannot be modified.

16.1 Control of the humidity on freecooling

NB.: All of the values in the following graphics refer to factory values

Enabled
ENABLING OF FREECOOLING
Disabled
0 Minimum 70.0 Environmental
humidity (%) humidity (%)

If high environmental humidity is detected, freecooling will remain inhibited for a certain period of time, which can be set by the Manufacturer. When this period
of time has expired, if the level of humidity has fallen below the freecooling rehabilitation threshold, then the shutter can modulate normally. This function is
disabled during a black-out.

16.2 Modulating shutter 010 V

Shutters that use a modulating signal 010 V coming from pCO, in order to vary their opening from 0% to 100%.
The electric signal 010 V is directly proportional to the temperature proportional band, therefore opening is always coherent with the request.

16.3 Freecooling controlled by digital outputs

On the basis of activation time of the relays, the degree of shutter opening varies from 0% to 100% using an excursion time called running time (time taken to
open and close totally, it is data on the valve plate). The degree of shutter opening is calculated on the basis of the proportion between the temperature
differential and the running time;

16.4 Re-alignment
As you may realise, control of the shutter using this system is not easily manageable by the programme, because there is no feedback indicating the degree of
opening precisely. The following solutions are used to solve this problem:
Every time temperature adjustment requests the opening or total closure of the shutter, the programme increases the opening or closure relay
activation time by 25% in order to assure complete closure/opening.
Every time the card switches on (ON) the shutter is closed totally for the running time, only afterwards can it start modulation on the basis of the
adjustment request.

17. Manual management of the devices

It is possible to manually activate the devices connected to the outputs without the aid of times, compressor rotation and independently from the rules and
values measured by the probes. The only support in manual mode is the management of alarms in order to safeguard safety and the integrity of the devices.
Activation of the analogical outputs in manual mode allows to force a value between 0 V and 10 V.
The manual procedure can only be activated if the unit is in OFF mode by the key and ends automatically after 30 minutes from the manual activation of the last
device.
During the manual management of the devices it is not possible to switch the shelter on (ON). This functioning mode is identified by MANUAL Procedure
written in the last row of the display, on the main menu mask. The parameters for activation of the devices are found in the Maintenance mask branch under
Password.

18. Automatic rotation between different shelter units in pLAN

The boards connected in the pLAN network have the advantage of being able to be managed directly by the programme in determined critical situations, i.e. if
anomalies occur (alarms, black-out), or due to Rotation and Forcing functions.
The programme bases its actions on some parameters:
Board participation class: Not present, Present / No Rotation, Present / Rotation. This parameter must be set for every board on the master board.
Description:
- Not present: the unit is not connected to the pLAN network;
- Present / No Rotation: the unit is physically connected to the pLAN network but is excluded from the rotation function (it can however manage
forcing of the unit in stand-by for temperature, the shared terminal and printing);
- Present / Rotation: the unit also participates in Rotation.
Unit in stand-by mode: there may be units in stand-by in a pLAN network among those selected in Present / Rotation mode. On activation by the key,
this must place itself in stand-by mode (i.e. switched-off, while waiting to be activated).Clearly, if only one unit is present in the network, the unit
cannot be in stand-by.
IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS
The functions described successively cannot be realised if:
- At least two units have been selected in the Present / Rotation mode;
- a stand-by unit has been set.
The functions are managed by the board with pLAN 1 address; if this is disconnected from the pLAN network or is switched-off due to a black-out, the board in
stand-by is activated and the functions in question will be suspended until unit 1 has been restored. On the contrary, switching-off of unit 1 using the ON/OFF key
does not interrupt the execution of network functions.

18.1 Critical situations

The unit in Present / Rotation and in stand-by is activated in one of the critical situations on the cards that are switched-on:
- One of the boards disconnects itself from the pLAN network;
- One of the boards is switched off using the key;
- one of the boards is switched-off due to a serious alarm (see alarms table).
When one of the units in critical situations is restored, it is re-activated and the reserve unit goes back to the stand-by condition. If a critical situation occurs on a
stand-by unit, no action is undertaken at a pLAN level apart from signalling of the alarm on the unit in question.

18.2 Forcing
The unit in Present / Rotation mode and in stand-by are automatically activated when the units switched-on cannot satisfy the request for hot or cold. Therefore if
the temperature rises too much due to an excessive heat load for the units switched-on, after a certain period of time an amount of units in stand-by will be
activated, which are requested by the units switched-on. Every unit switched-on in this situation can request the activation of a unit in stand-by. The parameters
to be set for forcing are Differential, offset and delay, different for heating and cooling. The diagram below illustrates the function:
NB.: All of the values in the following graphics refer to factory values.

Hot forcing offset Hot band Cold band Hot forcing offset
8.0 C 8.0 C
Hot forcing differential Cold forcing differential

18.3 Fixed time rotation

Fixed time rotation is based on a parameter that establishes the interval of time between rotations. The minimum time that can be set is 0h and in this case
automatic rotation every 5 minutes is activated as a test. The maximum time is 240 hours (10 days). The time is counted from when the board with pLAN 1
address is switched-on which manages rotation. Rotation takes place following the Plan address logic.
Rotation will be automatically reset every time that a unit is put on or removed from rotation so modifying the participation class (see above).

Standard Shelter pCOOEM

19. Alarms
The alarms managed by the programme can safeguard the integrity of the connected devices and give signals if the control parameters have moved away from
normal values or the board has an anomaly. The alarms can come from the digital alarm inputs, the probes and from the board. The effect of the alarms goes
from a simple signal to the blocking of one or more devices to switch-off (OFF) of the shelter. Many alarms are subject to settable delays.
When an alarm is triggered the following signals occur:
Switching on of the buzzer incorporated in the external terminal (absent on the built-in terminal and on the PGD external terminal);
Switching-on of the red LED underneath the ALARM key.
By pressing the ALARM the buzzer switches off and the alarm mask is visualised on the display. If there is more than one alarm active, once entering into the
alarm menu, just use the arrow keys to scroll through them all. If other keys are pressed the alarm mask will be exited but these remain memorised and re-
appear every time the ALARM key is pressed.
To manually re-arm the alarms and delete messages, be positioned on the alarm mask and press the ALARM key again; if the cause of the alarms have
disappeared (digital inputs re-armed or temperature back within the average etc) the masks disappear, the red LED switches off and NO ALARM ACTIVE
appears. If the cause of one or more alarms is still active, only the alarms whose cause is no longer present disappear, but the others remain visualised and the
buzzer and the red LED switch back on.
All alarms have manual reset; therefore in order to reset them an operator must intervene directly on the unit terminal.

The alarms can be:

- Serious,
- Minor 1,
- Minor 2.
This selection is made by the operator using the terminal or by the supervision.

19.1 Alarm relay

For every alarm managed it is possible to select if it is Serious or Minor, type 1 or 2, establishing in this way which relay must be activated. It is possible to
decide the delay before closure for all 3 relays.

20. Basic historical

Thanks to the noteworthy availability of the pCOOEM board buffer memory, it is possible to memorise the events. The BASIC historical can be enabled with a
parameter; in absence of the clock card, the BASIC historical is not available. Other optional boards are not required.
The maximum number of events that can be memorised is 100. On reaching the one hundredth alarm, i.e. the last space available in the memory, the successive
alarm is memorised above the oldest alarm (001), which is deleted, and so on for the successive events. The memorised events cannot be deleted by the user,
except from when installing factory values or when accessing the parameter present in the V1 mask. The BASIC historical mask can be accessed by pressing the
ALARM key when mask E4 is visualised, exit by pressing the Menu key (Esc if using the PDG in terminal) and it is as follows:

HISTORY_ALARMS
+--------------------+
Historical alarms H025

Resistor 1 overload
12:34 01/08/01
+--------------------+
The following data are memorised for each alarm relative to the shelter at the time in which the alarm occurred:
Alarm description;
time;
date;
chronological number of the event (0-100).
The chronological number of the alarm, in the top right-hand corner, indicates the age of the event with respect to the 100 memorisation places available. The
alarm with number 001 is the first that occurred after enabling of the BASIC historicals, therefore the oldest.
If the cursor is placed on the chronological number it is possible to scroll the history of the alarms by means of the arrow keys, from 1 to 100.
If we are in position 001, by pressing the downward arrow it is impossible to continue.
If, for example, 15 alarms have been memorised and we are in position 015, by pressing the upward arrow it is impossible to continue.

22. Glossary
Proportional band: defines a temperature zone of a few degrees starting from the set point, inside which the system manages adjustment devices.
Buzzer: buzzer mounted on the external terminals; it makes a noise for long periods of time in the case of alarm or briefly if limits are exceeded on setting
parameters. The built-in terminals are not equipped with this device.
Default: this term defines values, for example the set point and the temperature proportional valve, automatically used by the system when modifications are not
carried out by the user.
Freecooling: action of introducing external air into the environment by means of a shutter opening, in order to cool the environment and saving energy at the
same time.
Step: defines an area of the proportional band (temperatures or humidity) inside which a device is switched-on and also defines the switch-on/off values of the
device in question.
Delivery: is the air introduced into the environment to be air conditioned.
Manual: switch-on and off of all devices connected to the board outputs, from a relevant mask and with the unit switched-off.
Mask: defines the screen that is visualised on the display.
Branch loop: series of masks regarding the same subject and therefore they can be easily reached by pressing the arrow keys; access to the branch takes place by
pressing one of the terminal keys, which visualises the first mask in the loop on the display.
Ramp: this term defines the excursion of a modulating valve from 0% to 100%.
Range: range of values available for a parameter.
Return suction: air of the controlled environment, sucked by the air conditioner.
Set point: defines a temperature value (or humidity) that must be satisfied; the system activates the hot or cold devices until the temperature or the humidity
have equalled the set point.
Sleep mode: defines the OFF status of a unit when requested by the Master unit, in the automatic Rotation mode
Buffer (memory): memory of the board on which the factory values of all parameters, selected by CAREL, are memorised. Permanent memory even without
voltage supply.
Upload: the operation with which the application programme is copied from the computer or from the programming key to the pCO board FLASH memory
3 point valve modulating valve: the 3 point valve is a commonly used valve. It is activated by 2 relays. One controls timed opening and the other timed closure.
The modulating valve is piloted by a live signal 0...10 V and is more precise.
Neutral zone: defines a very small temperature zone between the set point and the proportional band, inside which the devices do not switch on.

CAREL reserves the right to modify and change its products without forewarning. Manual valid for software version 1.1 and successive.
