- Society vs. Human Nature


- Mankind is better in its Natural State
- Social Contract Theory
Belief of Government Central Role:
He believed that the government should be ruled by the people
Believed in a popular sovereignty form of government
Believed that an individual shouldnt have to give up their rights for a king
Believed that officials should get their orders from the people.
The government should be intrusted with administering the peoples general
will.
Ideas on Government Power:
Believed in a direct democracy- everyone voted to express the general will and to make the laws of the land

The Social Contract
Everyone should enter into a social contract- giving up rights to the whole community, rather than a
king
Magistrates enforce laws passed by the sovereign or will of people

The sovereignty includes all the people in the state under governments control
The law would pass or fail based on the majoritys ruling
