Tara Kerschner wins $5,000 from Heartland Credit Union

HUTCHINSON, Kan., May 19, 2016 Tara Kerschner is the $5,000 winner of Our Secret
contest, courtesy of Heartland Credit Union.
Tara, a patient care assistant at Hutchinson Clinic was at work when she got the news. I was
shocked. I thought it was a scam.
Tara qualified for the $5,000 prize by completing a free financial review at HCU. Tara and her
husband, Travis, completed the review with HCU Financial Advisor, Kirk Zahn, at the branch
located at 2900 N. Main in Hutchinson.
Tara said they already have plans for the money. Its going towards debt. Weve already
spoken with Kirk at 29th about our plan. Plus, were giving a portion to a family in need and
finally finishing a bathroom remodel.
Kirk, a Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor, was thrilled when he heard the news.
I was so excited when I learned that Tara was the winner. I was able to give Tara and Travis
direction during their financial review, and $5,000 allows them to carry out their plans much
sooner, commented Zahn. Thats just one of the things that I love about this job -- I have the
opportunity to guide people financially and make a significant impact. Its very rewarding.
The Kerschners reside in Hutchinson with their children, Tinley and Tabor.
When Tara told Tinley how blessed they were, the 5-year-old innocently quipped, What, mom?
Garth Strand, HCU President, commented on the contest. We genuinely wanted to help our
community members financial futures and to prove we were serious, we had the $5,000
incentive. Were very happy for Tara and her family. Garth, a 35-year HCU veteran and credit
