Meeting Scheduled for June 12
Members of the Covington Newberry Historical Society invite
the community to come to their next meeting on Monday, June 12,
7 p.m., at the Ft. Rowdy Museum.
History is our middle name, so to speak says Jack Jackson,

VBS June 12-16 At P-Hill First Brethren Church
Plan to send your children to Lifeways Submerged Vacation
Bible School at Pleasant Hill First Brethren Church June 12-16,
from 9 a.m. til noon.
They will learn how Jesus saw people for who they were deep
down, not who they appeared to be on the surface. The week will be
filled with Bible-learning experiences, games, songs, and a snack,
as well as other exciting activities.
The program is for those age three (potty-trained) thru Grade 8.
On Monday, please arrive at 8:45 a.m. so your child can register.
On Friday, June 16, you are invited to return for a special Family
Fun Night with games and food from 6-8 p.m.

Kids PlAnting PollinAtors - June 21 will bring the Miami County
Park District to the library for a program that will teach kids about planting
habitats for pollinators. Starts at 1:30 p.m. and is for ages K to 6th grade.
June 22: Adults PlAnting PollinAtors - The Miami County Park
District will host a program for adults about plants that create habitats for pol-
linators. Join us to learn how to plant a pollinator garden.

June 5, and continues thru Saturday, July 22. Sign up and receive your tally

Bee a Gardener at the Pleasant Hill Library

Join us Friday, June 9, at 1 p.m., for Bee a Gardener presented
by the Miami County Parks District. Visit with a naturalist at the
Pleasant Hill library to explore pollination through books and gar-
dening. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the Quest
Program, travel the Storybook Trail, and receive a rock. This pro-
gram is one hour long and is best for ages four years and up.

Scott Trostel as Guest Speaker June 15
Please join us at the Pleasant Hill History Center, 8 E. Monument
St., on Thursday, June 15, 7 p.m., for a presentation by Scott Trostel,
The Dayton Covington & Piqua Traction Company.
Trostel is a writer and speaker concentrating on transportation and
industrial history. He will tell the amazing story of the rise and fall
of the D C & P. His book on this interurban is titled: Electric Traction
Along the Stillwater.
Trostel, from Fletcher, has completed 52 titles and five documen-
tary DVDs. He appeared on the award winning documentary, Made
In America Lima Locomotive Works. Included in his genre are a
number of railroad transportation histories, industrial histories, and
the acclaimed book The Lincoln Funeral Train. He appeared on the
2009 History Chanel documentary: Stealing Lincolns Body. He
has consulted to the Library of Congress. He is also a historical con-
sultant to news networks and is a regular contributor to the Ohio His-
torical Marker project.

Vacation Bible School Coming Up
FREE Bluegrass Music Festival
Offered June 23 in Bradford
The Bradford Public Library is sponsoring their 18th Bluegrass
music program in the Bradford H.S. Auditeria on Friday, June 23,
from 5:30 til 11 p.m.
There will be six outstanding bluegrass bands performing, so
dont miss it! These fine musicians are donating their time to provide
entertainment for the community. This years event will be a tribute
to Carol Coy, founder of the event. Mrs. Coy was a staff librarian at
Bradford Public Library for over 20 years.
All the groups play the local festival and events. Several of the
groups members have appeared on national music lists for perform-
ances or songwriting. They will have their music CDs available to
purchase.
A raffle will begin at the library Monday, June 12, for a variety of
nice items, with more to come donated by local businesses. They have
donated to this cause to help with the expense of putting on the pro-
gram. Stop in at the library and get your tickets at $1 each or 6/$5.
Tickets will be available the evening of the show and the drawing will
be held toward the end of the program.
Food will be available to purchase from the Bradford Historical

Readers of all ages will explore all things sports and fitness this
summer as the Oakes-Beitman Memorial Library presents their sum-
