. When connected to a single-phase ac supply, it draws a current, i(t)= 27.89sin(628.3t-
45) A. Find: (i) the instantaneous voltage applied to the series circuit (ii) Inductance (iii)
power drawn by the supply. [ v(t)=310.9sin(638.3t+18.43), 0.0157 H, 1945 W]

2. A choke coil connected across 250V, 50 Hz supply taking a current of 10A at 0.8 pf
lagging. What will be the power taken by the choke coil, when it is connected across a
200V, 25 Hz supply? [1.75 KW]

3. A capacitor is in series with a 2 resistor and carries a current of 10A to store energy of
0.25 J at 100V ac supply. What is the supply frequency? What is the current, phase
difference, is the frequency become 10,000 Hz? [325 Hz, 49.34 A, 8.9]

4. Two impedances Z1 and Z1 are connected in series across 240 V, 50 Hz supply. The total
current is 3A. Impedance Z1 has 0.8 pf lagging and voltage across it is twice that across
Z2 and in quadrature to it. Determine (i) Z1 and power consumed in Z1 (ii) p.f of Z2 and
power consumed by Z2 (iii) Draw phasor diagram showing all voltages, currents and
phase angles. [Z1=57.24+j42.93 , 515.18 W, 0.6(lead), 193.2 W]

5. A 100V, 60W lamp is to be operated off 220V, 50 Hz mains. What (i) pure resistance and
(ii) pure inductance placed in series with the lamp will enable it to be used without being
run over? Which method is more economical? [200, 1.038 H, (ii) economical]

6. A potential difference of 200<30 V is applied to two impedances connected in parallel.
