The way I look at life based off of what I have learned in AP Psychology, is no different then
how I look at life now. Besides the intense selection vocabulary. I have been aware of mostly
everything, except for a few things. I have been encountered and witnessed of mental
disorders/illnesses, because I happen to have a brother who was diagnosed with Autism
Cognitive Development is a subject that I already knew about, because of Parenting and
developing. So this helped me retain a little more information on this specific subject at the time.
Maslow and his hierarchy made an influence on a childs dire need and their wants. Cognitive
development also influences the childs behavior and why they act as such. The definition of
We also learned about the parts of the brain, lobes, neurons, neurons transmitters, the function of
the brains and the functions within those functions. The lobes are Occipital, Frontal, Parietal and
Temporal. Each lobe is located in a specific place in the brain and they have different functions.
They helped the brain and body in many different ways. Occipital lobe is responsible for vision.
Frontal is responsible for problem solving, memory, language and sexual behavior. Parietal is
responsible for sensory information and Temporal is responsible for hearing. All these lobes help
their genetics. Some psychologist can diagnose a mental illness by symptoms but can be
misdiagnosed and can make the patients condition worse. During my time in this class learning
about these disorders. I feel as if I can interact with a person that has these symptoms better than
when I first arrived. Due to my experiences with family members and close friends.
I would speak on the ways psychology has opened my eyes when it comes to sleeping
disorders. Most of my friends have told me theyve experienced these things but I never
understood why until this semester. The brain is capable of some things its difficult and we still
have more to figure out. Im glad psychology could show me and give me information on how
the brain works and why certain people act as such or go through specific things they may
witness. I do feel like I can go into a deeper explanation on the mental, social and emotional
People of all ages, races, ethnicities and genders, are liable to have any disorder. Once again,
you can receive it from your parents. Or it could just happens as you develop in the womb and or
as you grow. There has been many people that I know who have been diagnosed with a disorder
and no one in their family has it. Or it could have skipped a generation, in other words what I am
saying is, you dont always have to have a disorder based off of genetics.
I also was re-informed about all the doctors that are within psychology. Such as, psychologists,
the study of the brain. Psychiatrist is a Doctor who diagnoses and treats those mental illnesses.
