Engaging the community in curriculum implementation:
Family and community engagement impacts on students learning. In the school, there will be
policies and practices implemented already in the school that aim to increase community and
family involvement. As an effective teacher, it is your job to contribute to this and provide
ways of addressing this issue. In my teaching ill propose ways to get the parents involved in
their childs education. This will be evident through parent information sessions, morning
reading sessions where parents come into the classroom and read with some students and
activities that the parents can do with their children at home. Likewise to the parental impact,
community engagement is essential. When designing lesson plans, ill provide strategies that
allow the community to get involved in the focus. Guest speakers coming into the school, a
unit that focuses on an issue that is present in the community and going on excursions to
local sites that the students have been studying can achieve this. Likewise, I will develop
workshops that make familiars aware of cultural difference and create days in the school
where the local community is welcome to join.
