Organization
Organized in a number of official bodies
Pan-African Parliament (PAP) :
265 elected representatives from all 55 AU states
Provides popular + civil-society participation in the processes of democratic
governance
President: Roger Nkodo Dang, of Cameroon

Assembly of the African Union :


Supreme governing body
Meets once a year
Current chair of the AU: Chadian President Idriss Dby

African Union Commission :


Main responsibility = Administration + co-ordination of the AU's activities
and meetings

Court of Justice of the African Union :


Rule on disputes over interpretation of AU treaties

Executive Council :
Discussed matters = Foreign trade, social security, food, agriculture and
communications
Accountable to the Assembly + prepares for it material to discuss and approve

Permanent Representatives' Committee :


Prepares the work for the Executive Council

Peace and Security Council (PSC) :


Collective security + Early warning arrangement to facilitate timely and
effective response to conflict and crisis situations in Africa
Prevention, management and resolution of conflicts, post-conflict peace
building and developing common defense policies

Economic, Social and Cultural Council :


Professional + Civic representatives
