1.10-13.

17 We took a look at the syllabus, and discussed what we were

going to do this semester. Worked on reading goals, realized that there are a

lot of things to improve on.

1.17-20.17 Read and answered questions on Lundstroms article, began

working on my first Learning Log for the Juvenile Justice unit, which made me

think about juvenile problems and solutions. Took notes on the second article

that was read for the discussion we are going to have next week.

1.23-27.17 Worked on the quick writes on Monday, summary, and response

about Garingers article. The next day we were split up into groups and

worked on one of the two articles, and we worked on annotating On

punishment and Teen Killers. We discussed and answered to the questions

in our table groups.. Then we shared our answers with the rest of the class,

listened to their answers and took notes. Learned the use of ethos, pathos,

and logos in the articles, used to persuade readers.

1.30-2.3.17 Worked on the Socratic Seminar preparation this week, through

discussion and to the reflection. Referring to the Socratic Seminar Rubric,

prepared through writing up the arguments and questions. On Thursday, we

discussed about whether a teenager should be tried as an adult or not, also

the juvenile justices system. I learned how to politely participate into an

argument and making points, without cutting off others speaking. In addition,

found out that other people have many good opinions and points.

2.6-10.17 We worked on the reflections and on the essay for the Socratic

Seminar. The Socratic Seminar Reflection was one of them, self-reflected how
I did in the Seminar, the points i made, and how it affected the entire

seminar. Also started working on the second Learning Log, wrote up a review

with the frame given and discussing the pros and cons of the Seminar. While

working on these, Found my weaknesses and then wrote up on them and

how I can improve them.

2.13-17.17 Mostly worked on our essay: Juvenile Justice Problem/Solution

Paper, writing thoughts on the current Juveniles and the justice system using

all the resources we studied. I mainly focused on why Juveniles should never

treated as adults and the related current issues of the Juvenile Justice

System, and how it should be altered for making better communities

throughout the United States. I wrote the essay in a persuasive way, so that

people can agree with the points that Ive made.

2.21-24.17 After reading articles about the gender stereotypes we have in

our society, annotated my thoughts and answered few questions provided by

the teacher. Also worked on the mapping evidence, which helped me to

better develop my opinion. I learned that the common stereotypes we know

are not actually true, and we should try to get rid of those.

2.27-3.3.17 Weve read some articles from Unit Six: Language, Gender, and

Culture, annotated and answered some questions related to them. By

dividing the paragraphs into introduction, body and conclusion, I could better

comprehend the text and what the author was trying to say in there. Also

wrote conversation between the authors, to show their opinions better.

3.6-10.17 We read Audre Lordes speech, The Transformation of Silence

into Language and Action, and answered some questions with annotation.

We continued working on writing the conversation between the authors, and

started Learning Log #3 and writing task, discussing 5 social issues with a

narrative voice. I learned how the writers fight for their rights through writing

against stereotypes in our society.

3.13-17.17 worked on the last assignment for Unit Six, the Writing Task,

discussing about the chosen social issue around us. I wrote a letter about

racism in labor and others to inform people of this issue and persuade them

to recognize the seriousness and solve. I researched more about the issue, it

helped me to develop my own idea about it.

3.20-24.17 before we start Unit 7, began studying the backgrounds of the

novel, 1984. We defined some vocabularies that are important, such as

Orwellian and Doublethink. Read some articles and answered a few brief

questions regarding those topics to better understand the contents of the

novel. I found that it actually helped me better comprehending.

4.3-7.17 began working on Unit 7, studied who the author, George Orwell, is

and the whole class started to read the novel together. Then we set up the

Journal for 1984, to answer the questions that were provided by the teacher.

They helped me to better understand the main points of the novel, that I

should never miss while reading this book. Didnt complete Part 1 yet.

4.10-13.17 continued working on reading the novel, 1984, and answering

questions. Completed Part 1, and began working on Part 2. Also worked on

the 5th Learning Log, that was asking my opinion about the Newspeak, the

simplified English language, applied to our society. I answered that it would

be better to use Newspeak after compensating the defects of it.

4.18-21.17 continued working on 1984, completed Part 2 of it with reading

and answering the questions that were provided by the teacher. Also

answered on the questions about Goldsteins Book after reading. This helped

me to better understand about Goldsteins idea of Big Brother and how big

existence the Big Brother is in Oceania. Goldsteins idea, by the way, doesnt

apply to our own society because we are living in a different society than

Winston.

4.24-28.17 starting with put yourself in their shoes activity, worked on

understanding the situations of the main characters in 1984, Winston, Julia,

and OBrien. Completed reading until the end of Part III and answering

questions from every chapters. At the end of the week, we were told to be

prepared for the last Socratic Seminar. Through answering questions, I was

able to better understand and find out the contents of the story and the

significant points.

5.1-5.17 starting Monday, we began working on the Socratic Seminar

preparation paper, brainstormed about the topics that were given, before the

discussion. My prompts were about the technology in 1984, the world of Big

Brother and what became real in our world. Also if the government can

actually manipulate people like whats happening in 1984. Through the

preparation, I was able to research and gain some real life situation
examples that works as my supporting evidence. The Socratic Seminar went

well, I could know what other classmates think about the topics.

5.8-12.17 we worked on writing the final 1984 Essay and the reflection of its

entire process. Final 1984 Essay was to help us well-organize our points and

opinions, also well-develop them and write as a persuasive form of writing.

The reflection was to find out the errors of the Socratic Seminar that we

didnt recognize at that time. And thinking about how to improve it next time

by doing what and not doing what. These assignments helped me to

conclude my overall opinions about 1984.

5.15-19.17 after the Socratic Seminar, I made the reflection of my

performance during the Seminar. By writing what Ive done good and bad, I

could find out how to improve next time. We were also informed about the

Final Project, and worked on reading the assigned articles. Also prepared

some interview questions that are for the freshmen in the school, about

Bullying. After reading the articles, we summarized and annotated, to

better understand and develop our ideas better.
