All your questions answered JANUARY ISSUE 2016
Hello,
B
y the time you read this, 2016 will be under way.
So what will this new year bring you? Maybe
youre already a parent, and over the next
12 months youll see your little one grow and
develop, or perhaps this will be the year youll nally
welcome your baby into the world. But what if youve
been trying to conceive to no avail? I know from
rst-hand experience the heartache and upset this
entails, having struggled for many years before nally,
after treatment, having my twins. Its for this reason I found our feature on p50 detailing the
very latest on treating infertility so illuminating, and I hope you will too. At Prima Baby were
keen to shine a light on the many and varied aspects of parenting, whether its where best
to give birth on p54, how to decode your babys cries on p30, or why children should be
allowed to take risks on p66. Of course being a mum or dad isnt without challenges, which is
why some of us (OK, most) end up doing things we swore we never would before becoming
parents. Turn to p34 to read your hilarious confessions, with more than a few chiming a chord
with me. Finally, after all the Christmas indulgence, we challenged Annabel Karmel to come
up with some family recipes that were healthy and nutritious but didnt scrimp on avour.
Find out how she fared on p110. Enjoy.

Im on antidepressants
should I speak to my doctor
before trying for a baby?

GP ROB SAYS Yes, that would be a good idea.

As with all medication its best not to take it
when pregnant, unless the benefits outweigh
the risks. This is the case for antidepressants too.
When you talk with your doctor, you both may
feel its the right time for you to come off the antidepressants,
so this could happen before you start trying for a baby.
You may decide youd rather have overcome your
depression before you start trying to become pregnant.
If you want to start trying for a baby but need to remain on
antidepressants, then your doctor will be able to recommend
a suitable antidepressant, which may be the same one youre
ol taking or a different one. Remember once you start trying for

She hurts me
My toddler keeps pinching me and it hurts. She
finds my reaction funny. How do I make her
understand it isnt nice!

PSYCHOLOGIST RICHARD SAYS She obviously

thinks this is a joke, and doesnt appreciate the
discomfort. Be very clear and direct with your
toddler. Tell her you dont like her pinching, that
other people dislike it as well, and that her
friends will eventually stop playing with her if she continues.
Say, for instance, When you pinch me, that makes me
sad. Be prepared to repeat this message again and again
until she drops this habit. No matter how agitated you
become when she pinches, dont lose your temper. Instead,
quickly and firmly remove her from you, at the same time
saying no. Repeat as often as necessary.

Get your
groove on!
Banish nappy sag and give your little
one the freedom to twist, wriggle and
bounce any way he wants

E
verybody knows that little ones love to dance. Whether its an early
morning boogie or a little wiggle to burn off some energy before
bed, your baby is almost always grooving away.
But all that energy isnt just for fun every kick and twist he makes
helps him learn a little bit more about his body and how to use it. In fact,
experts believe movements like this aid him in building cognitive and
motor skills, and can even help instil confidence for the future!
So, to help his development, its important to give him the freedom to
dance like nobodys watching and the biggest obstacle can sometimes
be an uncomfortable, saggy nappy.
Pampers Premium Protection Active Fit is the first and only nappy with
Pampers Magical Pods, clever absorbent channels that distribute wetness
evenly, so they dont sag like the next leading brand.
Active Fit nappies with Magical Pods stay up to twice as dry for up to
12 hours of dryness. And being dry and comfortable leaves him totally
free to boogie his little heart out!

Becoming a savvy shopper will also help to stretch your budget. As a rule, if you see

She says,Young babies find milk feeding comforting, but if
bottle-feeding continues for too long, toddlers can come to rely
