Coca Cola Christmas Advert- Holidays are coming!


The product being advertised is a drink. The brand name for the product is Coca-Cola.This is a
successful name for the product because it is very simple and easy to remember .

For many years, people thought of Coca Cola only as a drink for warn weather. The Coca Cola
Company wanted to remind people that Coca Cola was a great choice in any month, so they
began the campaign Holidays are coming.

The target audience for this product is families or children who enjoy celebrating christmas and
get excited seeing christmas adverts. The targeted gender for Coca-Cola is not specific to one
gender, it is targeted at both male and female as it is popular for everyone.

Lifestlye of the consumers- The main consumers are the students and family oriented people,
but no occupation is targeted specifically.

The logo used in the advertisement is the coke bottle.This is successful because it is a known
brand. The Coca Cola logo is always shown in a bright colour therefore it helps you to remember
the logo and the next time you see it, you will recognise it.

The main colour used in the advertisement is red.The colour red has connotation of joy,love
friendship ,danger, courage,mainly in this advert it is suggesting love and joy.The choice of
colours attract the audience because it is very bright and it catches most peoples attention.

The purpose of the advert is to bring people together over christmas time. Coca Cola are getting
people to think that celebrating Christmas with coke is the best thing to do.

The motive for the advertisement is to draw the audiences attention to buy the product and also
to fulfill a need according to Maslows theory that human behaviour is focused on satisfying
certain basic types of needs. I think this product fulfills the need to survive, need for affiliation
and the need to find meaning in life according to Maslows theory.

The slogan used for the product is : Taste the feeling.This is also reffering to the Maslow
theory, its a need to find meaning in life , to find the same feeling they are trying to show in the
ad, the love and joy.

Content of the advert Storytelling- This is a Coca Cola christmas advert from 2016, but the
original ad is from 1995. As soon as you seen this advert, you know Christmas is just around the
corner. The children get excited for Christmas and the young adults are a little bit nostalgic
because it brings back the memories when they were younger.The advert grabs the audiences
attention by the opening, the music is the first thing heard, which is catchy and fun to anyone.

The advert it starts with a young boy running to see the Coca Cola trucks coming through his
town. In the next shots, we are distanced away from the boy and we see the whole village
gathering together to see the trucks, giving the feel of a comunity and the message to share a
coke around the holidays. Once the people see the trucks their faces are lightened and we see the
joy that it brings to them.

Next , we see again the same little boy from the beginning who runs past many obstacles to get a
glimpse of the trucks, he pushes through many people but he only succeed to see the back of the
truck in the distance, then a couple of bells start to play and the advert is over.

Music The holidays are coming - During the advert, we heard the choir repeats the line
Holidays are coming! This is the same thing as saying Christmas is coming but they use the
expression Holidays are coming because they wanted to include also the Coca-Cola consumers
who do not celebrate Christmas. The repetition of this phrase is consistent, so it is very difficult
not to be aware that the holidays are in fact coming when were being told it over and over for
an entire minute. This repetitions also helps to build excitement that the holidays are coming.

Techniques-There is a hidden message through out the whole advertisement which isn't directly
said.The message is Coca Cola brings people together, this message is shown through all the
Coca Cola advertisements. This message is clear in the middle of the advert when the audience
see a Coca Cola trucks drive past, then see a silhouette of a man whos taking his child in his
arms to help him see the trucks better. This have a warm effect on the people, encouraging them
to purchase coke to get the same warm loving feeling they have.

Because is a Christmas advert, they have used the most popular face of Christmas, SANTA. This
does not only represent Christmas by having him on the truck, but it also it brings Coca Cola
closer to Christmas because Santa and Coca Cola have both the same bright red color.

Structures -The style of the shots have a very magical and homely feel . All of the coloring is
warm and welcoming. The color plate is mainly a mixture of warm reds, yellows and oranges
with dark blacks and blues in the background. The truck which is the main focus of the shots is a
bright attention grabbing red.
Frequency and places -The advert is shown multiple times a day and it helps to spread the
holiday message. Holiday are coming was advertised across many platforms, such as through
posters, billboards, busses, bus stops, pop up advertising online, banners, through social media
and through television advertisements.

Coca-cola does not share how much they spend on advertising in general but do say as a whole at
the end of each year how much they have spent.

Strong points of the ad- The strong points are the ones we said above the name,logo,song,
colours choosed, music, the idea of the red trucks, the asociacion of the brand Coca Cola with the
santa figure.

Week points- The week point is perhaps the idea that Coca Cola wants to transmite which is that
the advertisement creates a unrealistic thought to the audience because people may think that
Coca Cola can connects people and it is daily need to drink it.So, Coca Cola creates unrealistics
expectations for people.

What do we want to change? - In our opinion,its a really good advertisement.It delivers what it
promises.It does not need changes. For many years its been the same advertisement with a little
change each year but they still kept the same elements like the ones we remember when we were
kids.I dont think is a good idea to make very big changes in this ad because Im sure people will
always love this version.For example,in the 2016 when the ad appear people notice that at the
end of ad santa from the back of the truck doesnt wink anymore at the boy and people reacted
immediately,they got mad and send their complains to the Coca Cola company through social
media platforms like twitter,facebook etc.

Maybe the one thing well like to change is only the fact that in this advertisement does not
appear black people so we will want to introduce in this ad people from all the races, because we
want to show different kinds of cultures.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the combination of all of these elements creates a very effective piece of music for
a Christmas advert. In our opinion, the Coca-Cola company achieved what they wanted: to
spread the message that Coca Cola is family friendly bringing up key Christmas themes in their
advert and that they are about bringing people together as a whole to celebrate Christmas with
coke.
