2.4 Consultant Model Coordination

Responsibility : BIM Manager Skill Level : Intermediate

Screencast : N/A

This document is intended to be issued to external consultants working with Revit (or other BIM authoring software) to
ensure correct coordination between disciplines. Please also refer to documentation on Shared Coordinates.

For all JMA project we operate a minimum of a 2 file system. The first file is the building model which is constructed to
project north, roughly centred on Revits underlying coordinate origin point. The second file is a site file which has been
correctly globally located using the survey data. Shared coordinates are published directly from this model to the building
model.

2.4.1 Initial Model Construction

Open your office Revit template file.
Under the Insert tab go to Manage Links.
In the RVT tab click on Add

2.4.2 Publishing Shared Coordinates.

Open the JMA site model. This file will have the link to the JMA building model located in it.
Go to Manage Links, select the JMA model and click on Reload From
Browse to the location of your own Revit model and click OK this will replace the JMA model with your
own, provided you have followed the directions in 2.4.1 above the location of your model on the site will be
identical*.
Once replaced go to the Manage > Project Location > Coordinates > Publish Coordinates
Select your model file.
In the Location Weather Site dialogue box select Internal (Current) and click OK
Go to Insert > Links > Manage Links and select the linked file. Click the Save Positions button in the
bottom right hand corner
Close the Site file without saving. Open your model file and check and ensure the shared coordinate
system has updated correctly.

By following this procedure the models can be aligned by both Origin and Shared Coordinates. This is useful when it comes
to 3D Coordination where software wont necessarily read the shared coordinate system. Ultimately it should save time,
effort and frustration all round.

*Note : if the model has been pre-existing and not aligned to the origin (2.4.1) then link your model directly (do not Reload
From) and locate the model correctly in relation to the JMA project model then follow the remaining steps.
