MC Planet take on the World

Congratulations to Tahlia Fauchon & Lucy Couper, daughters to Scott Fauchon (Safety &
Training) and Jason Couper (Maintenance Mechanical Engineering) who competed at the
dance worlds in Orlando Florida early this month and gained an overall ranking of 8th in the
world for their division. Tahlia & Lucy are part of a dance group from MC Planet Dance
and Tomago were proud to show their support by sponsoring these two girls.
The group consists of 14 girls ranging in age from 14 through to 16. The dance group
gained a worlds bid after performing at the Nationals titles on the Gold Coast in November
2016. The dance group has been competing at various competitions both locally and
interstate for the past 12 months which cumulated in performing on the world stage earlier
this month. After the first round the group was ranked 11th overall and gained a place in
the second round of competition. After the second day the group achieved an overall rank-
ing of 8th in the world for their division. Fantastic effort Tahlia & Lucy!

Research & Development $2.3M Tax Benefit

Tomago Aluminium recently completed the Research

and Development tax costing for the year ended 31
December 2016.
Working in conjunction with the Ernst and Young R&D
team, Tomago personnel nominated projects where
experimental activities were undertaken and with the
backing of technical documentation to determine
whether or not a project would fit under the scope of a
Research and Development type project. A tremendous
amount of work was required from many departments
site wide.
For the full year 1 Jan 2016 31 Dec 2016 there were
11 projects that surmounted to a notional deduction of
$23m, which at the end of the day led to a tax benefit to
Tomago of $2.3m which is a fantastic achievement.

This in turn leads to the question of how many other

R&D projects site wide are there?

Westpac $2 Challenge

Have you seen the Westpac sign outside the Wellness centre?

Tomago is supporting the Westpac Workplace Giving program and from as little as
$2 a week, your tax deductible donation can assist in saving lives.

With 1000 missions every year, your money stays local and helps to keep the rescue
team in the air and saving lives. No one has ever paid to be assisted by the Westpac
Rescue Helicopter Service. Thats because the good people in our community pro-
vide the funds to ensure the rescue helicopters are there when and where they are
needed.

Tomago is asking all employees to get behind this great cause by donating just $2
from their pay. We already have 380 Tomago employees who donate to this
cause, however our goal is to reach 600!!
For more information on how to donate you can catch Wayne Pringle and a Westpac
representative outside the Tomago Canteen between 11am and 1pm on the
13th,16th, 22nd and 26th June.
The next patient they fly may be someone close to you, so lets show our support! Story submitted by: Wayne Pringle

60 Seconds with Eric Sanders

Eric Sanders started with Tomago in 1985 and will retire on the 28th May after 32 years
continuous service.
We took the time to ask Eric a few questions.

What was your first role? Homo operator in the Cast house, using the same crane we
use now.
Finish this line: When Im not at work...I would be playing golf, fishing or helping my
wife with the Postie run.
If you had $100 to spend on yourself, what would you do with it? Buy another fishing
rod, Ive already spent $8000 on them!
Favourite food? Chinese.
What were your first thoughts of TAC? Overwhelmed by the size of the machinery.
Biggest regret? No regrets, Ive made a few mistakes, but no regrets.
Whats the best piece of advice youve been given? Make sure you go home in the same condition as you arrived. An old
work mate told me this.

Rod Shop Breaks Record

Rodded Stock reached 1650 for the first time ever. The previous record of 1600 was set about 10 years ago in the lead up to
Casting Carousel change out to allow a 36 hour shutdown.
We have also reached 1500 in preparation for other shutdowns. What is different now is that we are not building stocks for a
shutdown, this is just normal production and operators are saying they want to get to 1800 in stock and get some T Shirts
printed to celebrate.
This achievement is thanks to the combined efforts of many teams;

Stable Potline operation with smiley runs and mushie cutting results
in lower anode consumption
Rod Shop operators really making the most of the time the shop is
available to them
Maintenance focus on getting more things fixed more quickly
Purchase of extra stems.
