Topic: Safety Measures in Handling Solids, Liquids, and Gases

Objectives:

The pupils should be able to identify common solids, liquids and


gases found at home and in school
The pupils should be able to describe the uses of materials found
at home

The pupils should be able to measure the temperatures of tap water and cold
water using a thermometer

Day 1

Discussion

Review about the phases of matter; Solid, liquid, gas

Ask: What are the common materials found in your home? How about in school?
Name as many as you can.

Realia Teaching Strategy

Present some real objects of the mentioned materials found at home. Let the pupils
hold, touch, and closely observe them

Help the pupils arrange their given answers as to solid, liquid, gas

Solid Liquid Gas

Teacher will name the objects and pupils will raise the object mentioned by the
teacher

Teacher will describe the color, texture and phase of the object and pupils will guess
and raise the object to show

Group the class into 5. Ask each group to name other solids,liquids, and gas found
at home and in school not yet mentioned and write them in the appropriate column.

Call a representative from each group to present their work in front.

Day2
Review on the different materials found at home and in school
Have them written on the board
Examples;

Brainstorm with the pupils ideas about the materials listed and help the organize
their ideas

Have them write their responses in What We Know column

Discuss with them what they want to learn about the topic
Ask them to write their questions in which they are more interested in What We
Want To Find Out column
Distribute the reading material about the common materials found at home.
Give enough time for them to comprehensively read.

Ask them what they learned from reading the material and ask them to check the
questions they had generated in the Want To Find Out.
Discuss thoroughly the content of the reading material, the uses of the common
materials found at home.

Group the class into 5 and let each group arrange the materials according to uses

After all the groups are done with the activity, assign a leader in each to report their

Day 3

Review on the common materials found at home and their uses

Motivation
Show the picture to the pupils

Ask: What happened in the picture class?

What do you think causes the house on fire?

Sticky Notes

Ask the pupils to write their presumptions on what have caused the house on fire on
a sticky notepad.

After they finish writing their presumption, ask them to paste it on a designated wall
in the room

Call a volunteer pupil to group similar presumptions

Help the pupils to determine what presumption is most common among their
responses.

Discussion

Discuss the proper ways of handling harmful materials

Practice:
Put aon the box if it is a proper ways of handling materials
and put a if it is not.

Day 5

Review: Using of the Numbered HeadsTogether Coperative Learning

Group the pupils by seven. Each member in each group is assigned a number 1 to 7

Teacher will post a question on the board and the members of each group will
gather to think about the question and make sure that everyone in the group
understand and can give the answer.
Teacher will call out a number randomly. When a teacher calls number 7, the
number 7 member in each group must stand and answer the question.

The same rules apply for the next questions posted by the teacher.

EVALUATION:

A. Look at the pictures below. In your notebook, copy the name of the materials
and classify them as solid, liquid or gas.
B. Arrange the following materials found at home in the appropriate columns
provided below.
