COURSE OBJECTIVES:

To provide the basic skills required to understand, develop, and design various
engineering applications involving electromagnetic fields.
To lay the foundations of electromagnetism and its practice in modern
communications such as wireless, guided wave principles such as fiber optics
and electronic electromagnetic structures.
1 To acquire the knowledge of Electromagnetic field theory that allows the
student to have a solid theoretical foundation to be able in the future to design
emission, propagation and reception of electro- magnetic wave system
2 To identify, formulate and solve fields and electromagnetic waves propagation
problems in a multi disciplinary frame individually or as a member of a group
3 To provide the students with a solid foundation in engineering fundamentals
required to solve problems and also to pursue higher studies
COURSE OUTCOMES:
After the successful completion of the course student should be able to:
1. Apply vector calculus to static electric-magnetic fields in different engineering
situations.
2. Analyze Maxwells equation in different forms (differential and integral) and
apply them to diverse engineering problems.
3. Examine the phenomena of wave propagation in different media and its
interfaces and in applications of microwave engineering.
4. Analyze the nature of electromagnetic wave propagation in guided medium
which are used in microwave applications.

2. Ability to design a programming to generate EM waves subjected to the
conditions
3. Applications of EM Waves in different domains and to find the time average
power density
4.Ability to Solve Electromagnetic Relation using Maxwell Formulae
5. Ability to Solve Electro Static and Magnetic to Static circuits using Basic
relations
6. Ability to Analyse moving charges on Magnetic fields
7. Ability to Design circuits using Conductors and Dielectrics.

Course Outcomes:
The students will be able to:
1. Be familiar with the different vector operators used in Maxwells equations.
2. Be familiar with the four Maxwells equations used to study time-varying EM.
3. Apply the Electromagnetics boudary conditions to solve for fields at interface between two mediums.
4. Use Gauss Law and Poissons Equation to find fields for charge distributions and determine the
capacitance of simple structures.
5. Understand the behavior of electric field in the presence of dielectric and conducting materials.
6. Compute fields for steady state current and determine the resistance of simple structures.
7. Use Amperes Law to calculate the magnetic field and determine the inductance of simple structures.
8. Use phasor techniques and apply Maxwells equations to analyze uniform plane-wave propagation and
attenuation in various medium. Calculate Poynting vector.
9. Understand the basic properties of transmission lines; solve frequency-domain problems (find
impedance, reflection coefficients, current, voltage, power) for lossless transmission line; solve time-
domain problems (find reflection coefficients, currents and voltages versus time at stationary points or
versus position at given time) for lossless transmission line.
10. Understand the principles of antennas. Calculate the radiation fields (electric & magnetic), radiated
power, radiation resistance, radiation intensity function and directivity of Hertzian antenna.
11. Understand the definition of waveguide. Determine propagating modes, cutoff frequency, wavelength,
phase velocity, modal impedance, transmitted power and modal field expressions in a rectangular
waveguide.
