OBJECTIVE ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION HC-74 To provide a structural steel

tubing material in square and rectangular shapes which has -: mechanical property
requirements and provides good formability and weldability. II. SPECIFICATION
Standard Grade ASTM A501 Hot Formed Welded and Seamless Carbon Steel Structural
Tubing Chemical Composition (l ladle analysis) Carbon, max Phosphorus, max Surfur,
max 0.26 0.040 0.050 Mechanical Property, minimum Tensile Strength, psi (M Pa) Yield
Point, psi (M Pa) Elongation, in 8 in. 58.000 .(400) 36,000 (250) 20 Bend Test The bend
test specimen shall stand, being bent the outside of the bent portion, to an inside thickness
of the specimen as follows: Cold through 1800, diameter which has without-cracking on -
a relationship to the Thickness of Material, in.(mm) 3/4!! (19.0) and tinder - Over 3/4
(19.0) to 1 (25.4) mcI. Dimensional Tolerances ,u - : Ratio of Bend Diameter to
Specimen Thickness 1/2 1 - As specified in ASTFtSDJ or 501. Certification - The
supplier shall include with each material or subcontracted lot shipped to Hyster Company
a written statement certifying compliance with HC74 requirements signed by an
authorized representative of the supplier. III. GENERAL INFORMATION (not part of
requirements) Engineering Applications - - Tubing covered by this specification is
intended for structural applications which - require minimum mechanical properties It
may be used for parts which require cold forming operations such as overhead guard legs.
- - - When round sections are required for structural tubing applications, specify HC7I
pipe or HC75 drawn over-mandrel tubing. - - - - - Method of Specifying - Material
HC74 - - - Dimensions related to product form shall be shown in the material block.

Recertification of incoming materials or parts to a planned quality level will be
performed consistent with product classification, vendor performance, and total quality
cost. - Material Options - - - - - In some manufacturing areas, 45TH A500 Grade B cold
formed welded steel structural tubing is more readily available. This grade may be
substituted for hot formed tubing. It has higher mechanical properties and equivalent cold
forming characteristics and weldability. Reference Specifications -- - - -- - - ASTM A500
