The Polar opposite of the U.S.A

Our world couldn't be more different from the world described in Brave New World.

From the Socialism all the way down to the production of people and products. The fundamental

principles and ideology of america and the world described in brave new world are completely

different. They even have a set entity which they consider god who is known as Ford. their

economy is strange but i view it as a sort of socialism bordering on communism and since its a

made up story communism works. In their society they hate independent activities that people do

by themselves. Finally it takes an outsider to see the problems of this society to try and make a

change.

When it comes to the topic of how our societies are different from each other, Brave New

world has socialism and we have capitalism here in America. In brave New World, the ideals in

which they are taken care of by the government and the lower classes are pretty communist.

Everybody in the lower classes work to keep the government working and are given the same

kind of payment. The people in the lower classes are pretty much clones as well, a lot them come

from the same womb as well. They are even a monotheistic people where they believe and

praise Ford as if he was a god. However out of all this, their most socialist aspect is their motto,

community, identity, and stability (7). In which everyone is indoctrinated to believe. Which

brings up the second point of their so called conditioning, which is known as indoctrination in
our world. Which children are taught from a young age to believe certain things. For example

the babies hate the roses and the books, Deltas cant appreciate nature(22) due to this

indoctrination.

The second difference is how they interact with one another as a community. They dont

like activities that are done by individually, especially romance. Everybody avoids monogamy in

this society and Fanny even tells Lenina that Henry would be mad at her if she didnt have

another man (41). Which in our world would be an absurd thing to think. These people avoid

strong emotional attachment(45) so they don't really connect with one another and aren't able to

form a strong bond. Some of the people like Lenina who has been with Henry for months (40)

doesn't have a strong connection with him, and moves on to bernard and neither of them feel any

heartbreak.

The third thing different in the two cultures is how we think about life and death and how

we use our products.when John's mother dies and he tries to get a nurse; the nurse is more

concerned about the children's conditioning and doesn't really care about linda being dead (206).

After contemplating and seeing scores of twins lined up to get their daily soma rations, John gets

mad at the deltas for not understanding that they are being controlled into not caring about

anything (702). Their conditioning has also taught the kids to throw out old clothes to encourage

the use of produce (49) which in turn encourages consumption to keep up with efficient

production. They seem to not care about the environment because they are constantly pulling

materials from the earth and throwing away perfectly good items without giving it much thought.

The differences between our world and theirs are huge. There are many

communist/socialist ideals within their society which do match up with ours. They have a set
religion which puts another person as a sort of deity much like a communist society. None of the

two cultures discussed have any major similarities in principle or ideals at all. Brave New World

is more like China or Russia than us. Making them nearly our polar opposite.
