Care." Patient Access, Referral Management & E-Consult Software. ReferralMD, 31 Jan.

This article has twenty-four statistics about how media is affecting healthcare in different

ways. There are statistics about the percentage of doctors that use social media to help treat

their patients better and the amount of hospitals in the United States that use social media to

help connect and treat their patients. These statistics will help me with my research project

because it will provide the statistics I want to help prove a point. In my opinion, bias is evident

in this article because it only talks about the benefits of social media in healthcare but it does

not even begin to mention ways social media could be hurting healthcare. The accuracy of this

article seems great because while researching, I know I have seen these same statistics in many

other articles. In a survey that was conducted, there were eight main websites that people said

that they used to obtain their health information instead of going into see a doctor. I believe

that is important because it helps me narrow down what health websites or social media

websites I should be researching about more.

Instead of statistics, this article is about how if physicians and hospitals do start using

social media, they need to be extremely conscious about what they are putting out there because

that could change how a consumer or patient views you and trusts you and ultimately changes if

they are ever willing to go back to you or a certain practice/hospital. Not only that, but it also

talks about the fact that if you are a physician and you use social media to connect with your

patients, there needs to be limits won what you can say to them. It explains that a doctor should

never talk to a patient in depth about a treatment, rather they should recognize the disease that

the patient has and let them know where they could go to see a doctor and talk to them in person

about the treatment. I think that I can use this information to help further my project because it

shows how doctors can use social media in a helpful way but they also need to know their limits

and how much they can tell their patients so that a face-to-face conversation with a doctor about

a serious disease does not disappear from the medical world.

This website is a study of how media affects healthcare. This website is comprised of

many different journals and papers that show different ways healthcare has and is still affected

by the media. In the analysis of one of the parts of the study, it said that most people claim that

they use media social groups to talk about their health. By doing that in a big enough social

group, they always found at least one other person who is in the same boat as themselves. This

made them feel better by having emotional and self esteem support by social comparison so that

they did not feel alone. In my research project, I can use this information to help show that

consumer/patients are just using social media to talk to their doctors, they are also using it to

share with others what their doctor said so that they can compare it with others. When comparing

it with others, it helps the patients validate what their doctor said and it makes them feel more

secure in their physician choice. That not only is helping the patients but it is also helping the

doctors because if the doctors are doing their part and being truthful, the patients will keep

coming back.

This article is about how many people have searched on the internet a symptom

that they are experiencing and serious diseases will pop up and all of a sudden they are

convinced that they have a couple months to live. I have heard of this before many times. I

believe that this is a good article to help with my research project because it shows the other side

of how media affects healthcare. People searching on the internet about their health problems

could be an issue because they might just believe the internet and not get a second opinion from

their doctor. On the internet, there are so many resources but that does not mean that you can just

believe whatever is put on the internet and not go to your doctor. This article also talks about

how Google is teaming up with doctors to get rid of websites popping up first with scary

conditions being the answer to someones back pain for example.

Practices." Pharmacy and Therapeutics. MediMedia USA, Inc., July 2014. Web. 26 Apr.

This article talks about how doctors are using social media. Whether it is for social

networking or for their own medical purposes. A common reason doctors are using social media

is for social networking because it helps themselves personally. Not only are they it for that

reason but there are also databases for doctors only that allow doctors from all over the world to

connect together and share their experiences and knowledge. For example, Sermo is a physician

only social networking community that over 260,000 physicians use today. On this website,

doctors can anonymously talk about their patients and get other doctors opinions on how to

proceed with the case. Not only that but if someone has a rare case and the doctor does not know

what to do, they can put it on Sermo and a doctor that lives 1000 miles away may have had a

similar case so now, they could help this other doctor with their case. I can use this for my

research project to show how social media is helping doctors all around the world.
