Since my brother is back home for a month and he wanted to visit as many places

with us before going back so this time, we headed towards Chakwal to visit Katas
Raj Temple and Khewra salt mines.
We started off early and begun our journey around 9 am. It was a cloudy day. It had
rained a day before after almost three months. We took the M2 motorway which
was really foggy and looked beautiful. I love traveling from motorway. The roads are
really good, the journey is smooth and you can see the lush green fields spread on
both sides of the road. We reached Katas Raj in around 3 hours. The temples were
built and rebuilt several times and according to Wikipedia, some of the fossils found
at this area and the surroundings date back to thousands of years BC. While visiting
the place, the most unpleasant feeling was the way such and ancient worship place
was being treated. The temples are spread over some area and the road has been
built in a way that it crosses the temples in between dividing them. There is a
school nearby and sadly enough, one of the temple has been included inside the
school property and now is totally unprotected. It made think how we treat such
ancient places which are worth so much. We took some pictures of the small pond
of green colored water which looked amazing.
Our next stop was khewra mines located in the salt ranges of Pakistan. Salt mines
are of the worlds largest salt mines. I must say that the Khewra Salt mines are well
maintained by the government. The ticket purchasing, entrance and maintenance of
the mine is well done. The mine is huge and the visitors visit only a small part of it.
We took the train to inside the mine which was a different experience. The mine was
filled with colorful lights which made it look really cool.
