Perry v. Sindermann
Sindermann, respondent.
b. The case was about Sindermann, who had been a professor at Odessa
Junior college, for 4 years until his contract was not renewed. They did not provide official
reasons for his termination and would not give him a hearing to challenge his termination.
Sindermann filed suit stating that the court violated his fourteenth amendment right to due
process. The court ruled that Sindermann did have a right to a full trial.
c. This case took place in 1972.
d. The case originated in Odessa Junior College in Texas.
e. The case is relevant to public education in the U.S. today because it sets
a precedent protecting teachers fourteenth amendment right to due process, just because
of a lack of tenure.
2. The final ruling was that the court did need to give Sindermann a full trial and a hearing
because there are still people who are fired for unfair reasons and people who do not get a fair trial
District after it was found that she wrote sexually-explicit letters to a male student at her
school.
c. September 1992
d. The case originated in Douglas County, Nevada.
e. This case is relevant to public education in the U.S. today because this is
an issue that is faced too often. Especially now with social media and electronic forms of
communication, it is important that the courts support the schools decisions to fire
Karen Konewko guilty, and maintaining that teachers need to keep an emotional distance from their
students.
3. I think the intent of this case has become a reality for much of America today because
teachers become involved in situations like this and it is important that there are consequences that
are severe enough to send the message that behavior like this is not okay.
