Passive Voice

Passive voice is used when the focus is on the action. It is not important or not known, however, who or what is
performing the action.

Example: My bike was stolen.

My glass was broken
The savannah is roamed by beautiful giraffes.
The flat tire was changed by Sue.
A movie is going to be watched by us tonight.

Form of Passive

Subject + finite form of to be + Past Participle

When rewriting active sentences in passive voice, note the following:

the object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence

the finite form of the verb is changed (to be + past participle)

the subject of the active sentence becomes the object of the passive sentence (or is dropped)

Simple Present Tense

Form
am/is/are + past participle

Example

-The craft are made by wood

-The bottle are made by glass
-That piece is really enjoyed by the choir
-The dog is killed by the boy
-The entire house is paited by Tom

Simple Present Continous Tense

Form
am/is/are + being + past participle

Example

-The room is being cleaned

-The floor is being swept
-The dishes are being washed
-The treaty is being the two king
-A letter is being written by him

Simple Present Perfect

Form
has/have + been + past participle

Example

-The clinic has been cleaned by them

-Many books have been writen by her
-The letter have been delivered by the postman
-My window has been broken by him
-Her work has been done by her

Simple Past Tense

Form
was/were + past participle

Example

-The mansion was built in 1990

-The letter was written by him
-The file was printed by her
-The cars were bought by them
-The plane was repaired by the pilot

Simple Past Continuous

Form
was/were + being + past participle

Example

-Your gown was being washed

-A novel was being written by her
-Their prayers were being said by them
-A lecture was being given by him
-Dinner was being prepared by her

Past Perfect

Form
had + been+ past participle

Example

-The fence had been painted in green

-The city had been defended by the brave men
-The window had been broken by the little girl
-Five banks had been robbed by those prisoners
-Many cars had been repaired by him

Future Perfect

Form
will + have + been + past participle

Example

-The article will have been read ninety times

-The project will have been completed before the deadline
-The lesson will have been learnt by me
-The book will have been read by him
-The test will have been taken by her

Simple future

Form
will + be + past participle

Example

-The packet will be sent immediately

-The horses will be taken to the stable
-The contract will be sign by the manager tomorrow
-The job will be given to me
-The house will be cleaned by me every Saturday
