Topic: Music Composition
Essential Question: Is the student able to compose a song with Garageband?
Pre-requisites (Prior Knowledge): Use of Garageband program and basic song-
writing skills.
STAGE 1 - DESIRED RESULTS

B. Intended Learning Outcome Define what students will know and be able to do and
at what level of mastery they should be able to do it. NOTE: Add/subtract rows from

A. Learning Activities
1. Instructional Strategies/Learning Activities: Demonstration of basic Garageband
arranging skills.
(e.g., demonstration, discussion, small groups, role play, etc.)
2. Introducing the Lesson: Using a song that the students have already performed
(Twinkle Twinkle Little Star) and arranging it in Garageband. I will play an exciting
sample of what is possible with the program at the top of the class.
3. Instructional Sequence:

2. Extensions for Early Finishers: Keep adding layers to your arrangement OR
Begin a new project of another arrangement using a song learned in class.
3. Alternate strategies for struggling students or those who learn differently:
• Choose early finishers who are willing to partner with struggling students.
• Show the ‘Help’ feature in Garageband menu.

E. Procedures:
• Students will begin class at their workstation – students may turn on their
computers and log into their programs before class starts.
• Students will work on their individual projects during time allotted and may
feel free to ask their neighbors questions when they arise.
• Students who need Mr. Chagnon’s attention should raise their hand.
• Students should save their progress often to their personal school account in
their Music 6 folder.
• A “wrap-up” session will close each class and students will log-off of their
machines and collect their belongings from the lab.

Garageband and post it as a podcast?
