MGRP: Original Poem

Directions: Ponder a single idea related to your topic. The purpose of your poem is to praise
your subject, so the specific topic as well as the tone should reflect your admiration. You may
want to consider creating a poem that expresses the gift behind your subjects talent.
(Examples: A poem about B. B. Kings guitar; a poem about Ronald Reagans ranch; a poem
about Judy Garlands voice.)

Your poem must be no less than 16 lines and no more than 20. In addition, your poem
must include a minimum of five poetic devices (alliteration, rhyme, couplet, rhythm,
enjambment, hyperbole, understatement, imagery, synesthesia, personification, simile,
metaphor, onomatopoeia, symbolism, or synecdoche).

Identification and explanation of each device must follow your poem.

OJ Simpson

OJ Simpson was a beast on the field,

Formally known as The Juice he lived up to that name,
Even though things would never be the same,
Some say it was the fame,
But he was the only one to blame.

He claimed to stay home that fateful night,

He took a limo then a flight,
Many trusted in his fate,
He was not one to break.

He was thought of as a king,

Now the attention made him flee,
He was like a snake,
Trying to hide from his fate.

The jury came back, verdict in hand,

And silence fell across the land.
Not guilty, not guilty, they did decree,
Not guilty, not guilty, now set him free.

Poetry Technique Explanation

OJ Simpson was a beast on the field- I used this personification comparing OJ simpson to a
beast, because Simpson was known for being a great football player.
I used Rhymes throughout this poem to help the poem flow better and sound more smooth.

He was thought of as a king- I used this metaphor comparing Simpson to a king because thats
what many people thought of him because his past career in football.

He was like a snake- I used this simile comparing Simpson to a snake because after Simpson
was accused of killing wife Nicole he tried to keep low and hide from police, in his famous
Bronco Police chase.
