Venom of Hate

Bullying is a growing problem in our world today. Whether it's physical or psychological,

it can contribute to many suicides and lead to depression. It's a problem that needs to be

addressed, and more importantly, understood by adults and children. An ample amount of people

are targeted by bullies because of their race, sexual orientation, and their personal characteristics.

Many people often targeted for where they come from and what they believe in. Racism

is a learned trait from society that affects many people, specifically people color and different

ethnic/religious backgrounds (Coloroso 162). More often than not, these traits are often picked

up from the media and has unfortunately become social norm in society today. Unfortunately in

our schools, Kids have to be taught to be racist before they can engage in racist bullying

(Coloroso 162). Usually in schools many children pick up wrong ideas of race from outside

sources, which influences their decisions to become a bully. Racist bullying can be identifiable

by the victims of the bully which are often singled out because of the color of their skin, and

their religious or cultural practices (Beyond Bullying). Having a different religion, or skin color

often leads to being treated differently whether it's in school, or in the real world. Many people

argue whether or not that this counts as bullying, but looking at the definition of bullying, This

is bullying and needs to be addressed as such (Coloroso 162). Society today, and in the future

will be put to the test, and be asked whether or not racial bullying questions ones morality or

not.

Another topic that is a growing problem in country is being bullied based off what your

sexual orientation/gender is. More often than not, peer-to-peer sexual bullying is very

widespread across the nation (Coloroso 163). Sexism has existed for centuries, and the fact that

it still exists in the 21st century, is very questionable to where, as we as the greatest nation on

Earth still have this problem. Many studies show that Boys are more likely than girls to be

bullied in both physical and psychological ways (Characteristics of Children Who Are Bullied

1). This statement is paradoxical to some beliefs that girls get bullied more than boys. Similar to

racial bullying, sexual bullying is a growing problem that occurs between boys and girls

(Coloroso 163). Just as we progress as a nation, bullying is degrading our ethics. A study shows

that, One third of the kids surveyed reported experiencing sexual bullying in sixth grade or

earlier (Coloroso 163). As shown here, sexual bullying can start as soon as elementary school

and lead up to middle and high school.

Many victims are often bullied or picked on for their personal characteristics and how

they react to certain situations. Victims of bullying are often vulnerable such as being too

quick to apologise when accused, even if not guilty (Bully Online 1). This is often the case in

many situations in school for example, and it's a sign of weakness. Many victims are bullied

because of how talented or smart they are in a subject (Bully Online 1). This brings up jealousy

in which many bullies feel around people who are better than them. Children who are bullied

tend to be socially withdrawn, and sensitive (Characteristics of Children Who Are Bullied 2).

Lacking social status is a great way for bullies to target many individuals. Individuals who are

bullied are vulnerable, due to the fact of how sensitive, and weak they are (Characteristics of

Children Who Are Bullied 2). Not being able to stand up to a bully is one of the reasons why

many victims are continually being bullied. Weakness is one of the biggest reasons why victims

are being bullied in our world today.

Many people are targeted by bullies because of their race, sexual orientation, and their

personal characteristics. The fact that bullying is a problem that is growing instead of decreasing,

is an unfortunate reality that we as a country face. Everyday, our technology, and medical

science improves, but the way we treat each other as humans, unfortunately does not.
