Calculus

May 16, 2017

One topic I learned this year in Calculus was derivatives. Derivatives are pretty

much the basis of Calculus. They encompass many rules such as the power rule and

the anti power rule. Therefore, having a deep understanding of derivatives is really the

key to success in this challenging course. Derivatives pop up in almost every lesson

even beyond calc.

Having a flipped classroom helped my understanding of Calculus more than I

thought it would. When youre in a class and the teacher is teaching and they might be

moving way too fast, you cant just pause the class. The teacher cant repeat exactly

what she/he said 56 times. However, when you are at home watching videos you can

pause and rewind them as many times as youd like. You can also stop and do further

learning using different resources to gain a deeper understanding of the content. Having

a flipped classroom also allows for questions to be developed and asked in the next

class.

During Calculus I learned that I actually am not as weak as I thought at math. I

learned that my problem is I tend to doubt myself when I get answers when in reality, its

probably right. My whole life I told myself that math was my worse subject. However,

throughout this year I discovered that telling myself those negative words only had a

negative effect on my performance.
