I believe that the thesis statement is in lines 6-7; Because the country I love has never

truly loved foreigners, regardless of whether they come here looking for opportunity or hoping

for sanctuary.

The supportive sentences I have selected includes evidence on times where America

has acted poorly to immigrants and foreigners. Concerned that arrivals from the Far East who

had migrated to the American West to do the dangerous work of building the railroads were

unassimilable. This sentence from lines 21-22 reminds us of the Chinese Exclusion Act of

1882 that tells us that America could have possibly been against immigrants starting from a long

time ago. It is connected to the thesis statement because it shows an incident where America

blocked out immigrants in one way. Another connected sentence is in lines 28-29; A couple

decades later, declaring that America must remain American, President Calvin Coolidge signed

the Immigration Act of 1924. The Immigration Act of 1924 was also known as the No more

Italians Act, which acknowledged the high amounts of immigrants coming from Italy in the

earlier years. The Act highly limited the amount of immigrants coming to America, and shows

another way America shunned foreigners. Also in lines 45-46 there is another connected

sentence; But, like the refugee ban and the wall that Trump promises to build on the U.S.-

Mexico border, it cant very well be called un-American. This concludes the thesis saying that

America has never really treated immigrants correctly, banning refugees and immigrants from

time to time.

I think that the text is strong because it tells the author's opinion well, with evidence to

back the argument up. The text is clear, convincing and describes the argument in many

different points as well. I disagree with the author's argument that America has never really

loved foreigners because I feel like America has welcomed immigrants with an embrace with a
few small. In my opinion I think that America has been cautious in a way that they don't want to

have overpopulated country. Overall, I can definitely see the Author's point of view however I do

not particularly agree with it.

Unassimilable: not able to adapt or absorb

Nativism: a policy when a country is against immigrants and prefers to keep a country pure full

of the country natives.

Protectionism: a policy or system that strives to provide protection for different groups

Welfare: the greatness, wealth or well-being of some sort of group

Crackdown: going to an extreme to restrict a not wanted group of people.

I learned from this text that theyre are many different points of view on America and

Immigration and that there have been some times where immigrants have been shunned and

not wanted. Many different laws and acts have been signed for immigration and it shocked me

that Trump wasnt the firsts to go or say that they will go to severe measures to limit foreigners

and immigrants. I learned that I am definitely not against immigrants and I think that if America is

built of immigrants we should welcome new comers with wide open arms.
