1) Calculations of flowrate
a) Loadings Units
i) Taps 5 x 3 = 15
ii) W.C (Cistern) 118 x 2 = 236
iii) Wash Basin 121 x 1.5 = 181.5
iv) Sink 0 x 5 = 0
v) Bidet 0 x 3 = 0
vi) Shower Points 114 x 3 = 342
vii) Bib Taps 0 x 3 = 0
viii) Long Bath 0 x 10 = 0
774.5

Therefore based on CP48, the total loadings units of 774.5 is equilvalent to 5.62 L/s.

Flush Valve Fittings

Building Type : Group 1: Offices, Hotels & Hospitals
Building Type : Group 2: Schools & other premises
Type: 2

i) Water Closet = 0 nos

ii) Urinal = 0 nos

Total nos. of flush valve = 0.0 nos ( 3 nos. of urinal = 1 no. of flush valve )

Therefore according to CP48, the flowrate for 0 nos. of water closet & 0 nos. of urinal using
flush valves type = 0 x 1.5 L/s
= 0 L/s

** Therefore total flowrate required = 6.74 L/s (Include 20% Safety Factor)

2) Calculation for Pressure Head

a) Based on a flowrate of 6.74 L/s discharging from the pump. (1 Duty, 1 Standby)

Frictional losses

Frictional loss through pipe & fittings = 50 mm diameter

Length of straight pipe = 1 meters
Vertical height = 1 meters

i) Gate Valve 2 x 0.37 = 0.74 m

ii) Check Valve 1 x 4.44 = 4.44 m
iii) Y-Strainer 1 x 4.44 = 4.44 m
iv) Flexible Connector 2 x 4.44 = 8.88 m
v) Elbow & Bends 2 x 2.035 = 4.07 m
vi) Tee-joints 2 x 3.885 = 7.77 m
vii) Motorised Valve 0 x 0.37 = 0 m
Sub-Total = 30.34 m

Therefore friction losses through ( 32.34 ) meters of diameter 50 mm

Page 1
of straight pipe is ( 32.34 x 22.57 ) x 1.2 / 100 = 8.76 meters, Velocity of 3.400

3) Calculation for Pressure Head

a) Based on a flowrate of 6.74 L/s along the pipe line from pump discharge header to dropper at 23rd Sty.

Frictional losses

Frictional loss through pipe & fittings = 80 mm diameter

Length of straight pipe = 40 meters
Vertical height = 1 meters

i) Gate Valve 0 x 0.2 = 0 m

ii) Check Valve 0 x 3.4 = 0 m
iii) Y-Strainer 0 x 3.4 = 0 m
iv) Flexible Connector 0 x 3.4 = 0 m
v) Elbow & Bends 5 x 1.5 = 7.5 m
vi) Tee-joints 1 x 3.2 = 3.2 m
vii) Motorised Valve 0 x 0.2 = 0 m
Sub-Total = 27 m

Therefore friction losses through ( 27 ) meters of diameter 80 mm

of straight pipe is ( 27 x 4.24 ) x 1.2 / 100 = 1.37 meters, Velocity of 1.33

4) Calculation for Pressure Head

a) Based on a flowrate of 1.44 L/s along the pipeline from to dropper to penthouse units at 24th sty.

Frictional losses

Frictional loss through pipe & fittings = 50 mm diameter

Length of straight pipe = 30 meters
Vertical height = 0 meters

i) Gate Valve 0 x 0.37 = 0 m

ii) Check Valve 0 x 4.44 = 0 m
iii) Y-Strainer 0 x 4.44 = 0 m
iv) Flexible Connector 0 x 4.44 = 0 m
v) Elbow & Bends 0 x 2.035 = 0 m
vi) Tee-joints 1 x 3.885 = 3.885 m
vii) Motorised Valve 0 x 0.37 = 0 m
Sub-Total = 3.885 m

Therefore friction losses through ( 33.885 ) meters of diameter 50 mm

of straight pipe is ( 33.885 x 1.431 ) x 1.2 / 100 = 0.58 meters, Velocity of 0.76

** Therefore total frictional loss = 10.71 meters

5) Total Dynamic Discharge Head

TDH = Frictional loss + Static Head + Discharge Pressure

= 10.71 + 1 + 15
= 26.71 meters

6) Pump Size Flowrate & Head

Q= 6.74 L/s

H= 26.71 meters

Based on flowrate of 6.74 L/s and a discharge head of 26.71 meters, the pump that we use are
2 nos. of ITT GOULDS pumps model 22SV03F30T (3.0 KW) giving a flowrate of
6.83 L/s and a head of 26.71 meters. (1 Duty, 1 Standby)

7) Sizing of Pressure Vessel

Types of system : 1) Conventional Booster System

2) Variable Speed Booster System

** Based on choice : 2

a) Flowrate (Cut-in) : 7.50 L/s , 450 L/min

b) Flowrate (Cut-Out) : 4.20 L/s , 252.0 L/min
c) Head (Cut-in) : 20.00 meters , 2.00 bar
d) Head (Cut-Out) : 35.00 meters , 3.50 bar
e) No. of Start/Stop per hour : 15 s/s per hour
f) No.of Pump : 2 pump(s)

i) Acceptance Factor = Cut out - Cut in (absolute pressure)

Cut out

= 4.50 - 3.00
4.50

= 0.33

ii) Mean flowrate

= Cut-in flowrate + Cut-Out flowrate
2

= 450 + 252.0
2

= 351.00 L/min

iii) Mean Time = 60 min (1 hour)

2 (50% pump running & 50% pressure vessel discharge)

= 30 min

iv) Mean Time Share by No. of Pump = 30 min

2

= 15 min

v) Effective Capacity of the pressure tank = Mean Time Share by No. of pump(s) x Mean flowrate
No.of Start/Stop per Hour

= 15 x 351.00 x 0.2
15

= 70.20 Litres

iii) Therefore the total capacity of the pressure vessel = Effective Capacity
Acceptance Factor

= 70.20
0.33

= 210.60 Litres

Therefore we select 2 nos. 105 litres of Zilmet Hydro-Pro

has the overall capacity of 210 litres and a effective capacity of 72 (36L each) litres.
