Set Concept
Abstract. Create the setting out of the story. Same U-shaped stage
shape as Peter Pan.
Use two split flat units from Dolittle.
One side painted as snowy forest,
other side painted as ice castle
interior. Two pieces can come
together to form Grandmothers house
or Palace Gates. All 4 pieces meet to
form Snow Queens palace. All
pieces are moved by trolls. They
create the story.

Costumes
!Trolls - Browns and Greens, Headpiece
or Hat with funny ears and hair.
Children.
!Old Troll - Same color scheme. Costume
should be a bit more put together. Worn,
but proper. Like an old professor.
!Gerda - Simple, but beautiful country
dress. Love the color red for her. Stands
out agains the snow. Could be red accessories over
another base color. MUST have Red shoes. Red
mittens and scarf? Then MUST add Coat, Fur boots,
Fur muff.
!Kai - Young boy. Shorter pants, high socks, boots.
Sweater or shirt with vest. MUST add coat, hat, and
scarf.
!Grandmother - Matronly. Dress, shawl.
!Snow Queen - Silver. Striking. MUST have fur
cloak (black or silver, not brown). Long, flowing
arms, but more fitted through body. Feminine.
Headpiece resembling ice or spikes. Half mask, veil,
something over eyes.
!Children (Annelie, Aksel, Anja, Agot, Asta, Arne) - 3 girls, 3
boys. This can just be a coat, hat, and gloves to put over these
actors other costumes.
!3 Robbers - Dark colors. Striking and intimidating. Can be a
top with actors own pants.

Robber - More important than other 3 robbers. Should be a complete

costume with a coat.
!
Prince - Military dress. Blue Sash. Crown. Gloves. Can be a top pieces
with actors own pants.
!Princess - Many frills, long sleeves, elegant. Full costume.
!Enchantress - Exudes springtime. Sunhat with flowers. Light colors.
Beautiful, silly, yet threatening. Full costume.
!Wild Crow and Tame Crow - Should look realistically like birds with
maybe one human costume element (hat, coat, necklace, etc.) Would love
to give them something RED to match Gerdas red.

Soldiers/Sergeant - Military dress, including coats and gloves. A la

Toy Soldiers.
!Old Hag - Collection of rags, skirts, blankets. Fingerless gloves.
Knit hat and scarf.
!Reindeer - Again, realistic, not Halloween. Suggestion of animal
through colors and textures.
!Ladies in Waiting - Beautiful court dresses. Or cloaks and ornate
headpieces to wear over other costumes.
!
Lapp Woman - Traditional. Blues and Reds.

!Finn Woman - Like the use of red again since she helps Gerda. Red and black or Red and white?
