What improvements were made with these MPS?

Overall improvement in the quality of life of persons living in poor rural communities, especially in schoolchild
The following represent some of the main results:

Children received warm food and fresh off the stove.

Cooked meals prepared in better hygienic sanitary conditions.
Children feel more comfortable and happy; their concentration in classes improved.
Mothers do not have to carry hot food from their houses to the school.
Decreased risks of respiratory diseases caused mainly for lack of chimneys at homes.
Proper and safe storage of the food.
Decreased wood consumption, better heat conservation thank to the eco stoves.
Availability of clean water from the rainwater collection system.
Arguments among the members of the community are now avoided thanks to the kitchen storage rooms. In the past, th
was stored in their own homes and people use to think that the food could be eaten for their own consumption.
Every kid will have his own dish, spoon and cup.
One meal a day will be guaranteed.
These constructions are built with the best infrastructure and materials of the community. They have washing hands si
water, and drainage All these micro-projects motivate the children to assist to class and their parents
to enrol them. The school environment it is now beautiful, clean and in childrens perception, the school has better con
their own houses.

Thanks to TNTs donations and support, several aspects to improve the School Feeding Programme were covered, he
strengthening the assistance of this organization; reduce child hunger, increase daily school attendance, decrease abs
desertion rates as well as to improve hygiene and sanitary conditions of schools.

TNTs support also contributed in helping to achieve the Millennium Development Goals:

1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger

Guarantees that the school children have at least one nutritious meal a day
Saving derived from feeding the schoolchildren can be used to meet other basic needs

2. Achieve universal primary education

Attracts school children to go to school and attend classes regularly

3. Ensures environmental sustainability

Conservation of the environment through the construction of structures:

Eco stoves: decreases excessive wood consumption

Drainage systems in washing hand sinks that would prevent infectious diseases

In addition, TNT volunteers give new ideas and motivate the communities to give a good use and take care of the proje
hence guaranteeing sustainability and creating social conscience.

c) Challenges:

Could some particular projects not be completed on time due to some obstacles that the volunteers faced during the pro
implementation?

Provide a brief overview of the main challenges.

The materials for constructions were not received on time. For this reason the constructions started later, but we finished all
projects in time because the people on the communities worked so hard.

What Educational Activities were carried out? Provide a list and a brief overview:

o Personal Hygiene
o Interactive teaching

During our volunteer period one of the most interesting moments in Nicaragua was sharing with the community memb
(parents, children and teachers) to teach them basic health practices and improve hygienic, sanitary and environme
conditions. This was done through transfer of knowledge on healthy habits as personal hygiene (bathe the complete bo
every day, wash teeth, cut the nails, wash hands before eating, after using latrines, after feeding animals or after playin
basic tips on hygiene at home and in the kitchen-warehouse. We have talked to children about the importance of preserv
the environment (save water and natural resources).
d) Success / Beneficiary story

Provide two beneficiaries stories (one paragraph each), where children explain how they benefit from SF

The twins of San Ramon

Felix and Adan are twins that attend the Emmanuel Mongalo school, situated
in Pueblo Viejo, a community of Matagalpa, Nicaragua. They are very poor.
The have many brothers. In school they dont only receive formal education,
but they also find friends, company and protection because their parents are
working all day in the fields and cant take care of them. But most important is
that in school they find food. Thats because there isnt enough money in their
house to eat. That why they attend school everyday where they are assured
of their food.

An example of excellence

Maria is one of the mother of Hilipo School in Tuma La Dalia. She became a widow 10 years ago and has 5 kids to take care of by
herself. Maria is an example of an achiever. She works in the field, is a member of the schools feeding committee, organizes works
groups, guides the preparation of the school meal, is a community leader, is involve in the project, and works in the construction with
the rest of the men.

Today we could see the kitchen storage completed. Maria expressed her gratitude to us and was very moved, with tears in her eyes. At
last she can cook in a place with good condition, without inhaling fumes that is so bad for the health. The meals can be stored properly
and the children will have water at their disposal and can wash their hands before eating their meals.

There were loving words, grateful to WFP, TNT and the volunteers. But Maria doesnt know is that we are the ones that are grateful to
her, because without her help we couldnt finish the project.

Thank you Maria, for every thing that you have taught us. For the effort the you do everyday for the your kids so that they can have a
better future. Make good use of that energy to influence the person around you. You are an authentic example of excellence.
