Image Manipulation

Original image:

Step 1.

Firstly I changed the brightness and the contrast to make the overall image appear darker but also for
the colours to pop out more from the background making them more vibrant and eye-catching.
Original Image:

Step 1.

I first increased the exposure due to the image coming darker then I had hoped, this seemed to fix the
problem and still looks natural.
Step 2.

After playing around with different settings and techniques, I settled on changing the threshold of the
image to give a grainy/pixely black and white sort of effect. This image I think would look good as a front
cover as I believes it captures the indie genre in a single image as it is not only different but also strays
from the norm. Furthermore due to the pictures being different I believe it is eye catching and intriguing
making the reader wish to find out more therefore wanting to read the magazine.

Step 1: Firstly I added shadow at bottom of the image, I did this by using the brush tool. I set the colour
to black then dropped the opacity to 45%, it was then as simple as drawing over the area I wished to
shadow.
Step 2: I then increased the contrast to make the image more colourful, vibrant and to make it seem to
pop out from the page.

Original image:
Step 1: I first changed the image to black and white using the black and white tool. I did this to make the
image look more professional and make it look sleeker and simplistic.

Step 2: I then choose the colour of the background for making the background all the same colour and
pattern. I did this by using the brush tool at full opacity and a large size to draw over the imperfections
of the background, such as the roof of the studio.
Step 3: I then croped the image to fit the shape of a magzine cover and to draw more of a focus towrds
the band fetured in the image.
Original image:

Step 1: Firstly I selected the band within the image and cut them out from backgound. I did this to allow
me to add my own background.
Step 2: I then extended the size of the canvas to allow enough room for the article and it be the right
size for a double page spread.
Step 3: I then added my background, I did this by using the quick selection tool to select the band
members then inversing to selection, this meant I could not paint over the band members and would
allow me to colour the background without worry. To achieve my background First made the canvas a
solid blue colour. I then used the colour palet to chose a lighter blue, then suing the brush toll I added to
lighter blue at the bottom of the canvas blending it it with the darker blue.

Step 4: I then added a boareder around the image on the double page spread. I did this by using the
polygonal lasso tool to draw aroung the image and then coloued it purple using the fill tool. To achieve
the white outline around the purple I used a speical type of brush head within the brush tool.
Step 5: I then added a boarder around the entire article to make it look more professional, I did this by
using the rectangular marquee toll to select the inerds of the image then inversing the selection to
create a baorder. I then made this selection a new layer and coloued it black.
Original Iamge:

Step 1: Firstly I cropped the image to draw focus on the band members and to take out any of the non-
white background.
Step 2: I then added a colour filter to the image to make it appear the that the photo was taken under
blue light.
Orignal image:

Step 1: I firslty selected halt of the face and made it its own laye, this
allowed me to add specific changes to each side of the face, with this in
mind I wanted to make one side light and the other dark a technique I
achieved. I did this by making the whole image black and white and
ajusting the the exposure levels and brightness, then I simply only changed
the hue and saturation of just one side of the image.
Originsl image:

Step 1: I cropped the image to remove any of the non-white background to make the image more
professional looking.
Step 2: I then increaed the brightness and contrst to make the image more eye catching and bright, this
also gives the effect that the image was taken under extreme lighting conditions.
Original Image:

Step 1: I cropped the image to draw focus the the band members faces , I did this by using the crop tool.
Step 2: I then decresed the vibrance and saturation to give the image a darker more authentic look.

Step 3: I decreased the brightness and upped the contrast to take out the white glow of the
background but also keep the colour of the band members.
