ABSTRACT: A bench slope of moraine is selected as the study object. A new method of reliability
analysis, that is simplified rosenblueth method, is presented and adopted to analyze the reliability of
the bench slope of original design scheme and recommended scheme. The results indicate that the
inherent variability of strength, anti-weathering ability and hydro-physical properties of moraine soil
primarily affect the high failure probability of benches. Geometrical factors of slope bring little effects
on it. The bench slope with ternary platform widths of 3m, 3m and 15m are recommended and some
effective measures such as drainage and revetment are suggested to enhance the stability of the slope.
