Final Reflection
1. Rhetorical Knowledge
My first example of Rhetorical Knowledge comes from my Inquiry Thesis. In the
beginning of my paper, I wrote about my high school marching band and stated that it was
declining in size of members. Much of the paper referred to my high school. During the group
conference, I received feedback to go into greater detail about my experiences. I had to use
rhetorical knowledge and give background information to the reader/listener. Furthermore, I had
to give more insight on how music programs are declining in schools around the country. Giving
all this information to my peers during the group conference helped me realize all the
information that can go into my thesis. The reader will now be informed of the issue at hand and
can learn new information from someone who has had experience with the problem.
My second example is from my engineering class. In this class we had to write a paper
discussing why we want to become engineers and how we will use our degree in the future. The
purpose of this paper was to get the student to really think about why they want to be an
engineer. I had to use rhetorical knowledge to describe my reasoning and goals for an engineer.
I wrote a lot about the Air Force and my involvement with ROTC. I was required to describe my
2. Critical Reading
My first example of Critical Reading came from an article I used in my thesis. As I first
read the article, I thought it was going to be about how music should not be in schools at all.
When I read further into the article it became apparent to me that the author supported music in
schools, and very enthusiastically at that. The writer felt that music should not be in school for
the reason that is helps test scores. It should be in school because people love music and deal
My second example of critical reading came from Ryan Dixon's thesis paper. Reviewing
his paper gave me some ideas of my own for my thesis. Ryan formatted his paper very well and
allowed me to get an idea of how a thesis paper should look. His thesis was chalk full of
information and he quoted his source very well. Being able to review his paper helped me
create my paper.
3. Knowledge of Conventions
The First example of Knowledge of Conventions is a screenshot of my work cited page.
MLA format is used to cite work for a paper. In my work cited page I cited 5 different articles that
pertained to my thesis essay. All these articles were used in to essay and I had to add quotes
from them into the paper. The second screenshot is an example of the quotes from one of the
articles. Knowledge of Conventions is important so you can properly cite sources without
4. Composing Processes
I used the Composing Process when revising the response given by my teacher on my
thesis rough draft. Her comments gave me insight on what I should add to me essay. After
reading the comments I was able to organize my essay and continue with my writing. Peer
review further helped me when many of my peers showed enthusiasm for the experiences I had
5. Critical Reflection
Both of my Critical Reflection snapshots come from my Inquiry Thesis. The first reflection
is on my rough draft. I was unable to finish my rough draft but I stated in my reflection my
thought process and how I was organizing my essay. I added how my essay began to drift off
topic but many off my peers liked the added story from my high school.
The second reflection talked about how the reviews on my rough draft helped me
organize my essay. I followed what the peer reviews stated and kept the high school story in the
essay. The reflection goes on to say how my research pertains to my paper. In the end the
