Curriculum Corner
Language:
We have been working really hard on practicing all of
our reading strategies with many different genres.
Please continue to read at home with your children.
Reading SOL will be on May 18th and 19th.

Math:
This week learned more about geometry. We focused
more on 3D shapes and did a fun activity in which
students completed creating five 3D shapes: cube,
square pyramid, rectangular prism, cylinder, and cone.
Students learned how to count the faces (flat surfaces),
vertices (corners where three faces meet) and edges
(the sides where two faces meet). We will focus more
on geometric patterns next week
Math SOL date will be May 25th.

Social Studies: This week we are learning about the
European Explorers. We talked about Christopher
Columbus and the reason he explored for Spain as well
as the effects that his exploration had on the Native
Americans.
Science:
This week we have been learning all about animal
habitats. We have discussed aquatic and terrestrial
ecosystems.
Message from the Teacher
A lot of students have been bringing in fidget
spinners. I understand that students are
enjoying this new gadget. Its intended
purpose is to assist students with focusing in
the classroom. If a student is caught using it
as a toy, I will take it. If a student truly needs
it, please feel free to contact me so that we
can discuss the best use for this tool in the
classroom for your child.
