Her name was Ramla. From her first marriage, she had a daughter Habeeba.

So she is popularly
known as Umm Habeeba. Abu Sufyan ibn Harb and Safiyyah Bint Abil As were the parents of
Ramla Binte Sufyan who was later given the name of Hazrat Habiba (RA) and her mother were
the aunt of Hazrat Usman Binte Affan (RA) while her father Abu Sufyan ibn Harb was the chief
of the tribe named as Umayya clan. Being the chief he was the most powerful man in his tribe ,
and he was also the leader of the whole Quraysh tribe. Abu Sufyan ibn Harb was a well known
opponent of Prophet (PBUH) and had spent great wealth in opposing and crushing Muslims. He
always played a major role in denying the beliefs of Islam and truthfulness of the Prophet (PBUH)
, and he also spent time in trying to turn others against him (PBUH). But even he, the one of the
greatest opponents of Islam when it was introduced came over to the correct path and accepted
Islam.
Ramla Bint Abi Sufyan married to Ubayd-Allah ibn Jahsh
Ramla Bint Abi Sufyan was first married to Ubayd-Allah ibn Jahsh who was the brother of Zaynab
Binte Jahsh, the Prophets (PBUH) wife. They were amongst the first people who accepted Islam
when the Arabs persecuted those who converted. They and others like them had to suffer because
of Qurayshs cruel behavior and to avoid that many Muslims migrated to Abyssinia to escape the
harsh behavior. That was the place where Ramla gave birth to her daughter, Habiba Bint Ubayd-
Allah and her (RA) husband converted to Christianity. This led to their separation because Ubayd-
Allah wanted her wife to become a Christian too, but she refused. She lived in Abyssinia till her
husbands death and became a widow.
Bond of Marriage between Prophet (PBUH) and Umme Habiba (RA)
Muhammad (SAW) sent a proposal of marriage to Ramla Bint Abi Sufyan after she had completed
her waiting period following the death of her husband (iddat). She accepted the proposal gladly,
and the Prophet (PBUH) was not present at the marriage ceremony, but it took place in Abyssinia.
Khalid ibn Said was chosen as her legal guardian at the ceremony. The King gave a dower of 400
dinars to Khalid and gave a huge wedding feast in honor of the marriage.
Six years later she met the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) when it was possible for Muslims
to go back to Arabia. She was thirty five and he (PBUH) was sixty years old, so she lived only for
three years with him.
Since her father was a kafir (a non believer) she did not talk to him and once he came to her home
to visit her, but she refused to let him sit on the carpet. When she accepted Islam she gave up the
life she had lived before and embraced a new one which was peaceful and rewarding. She was the
Mother of Believers like all the other wives of the Prophet (PBUH), and like the rest of them she
was buried in Jannat ul Baqi.
