Civil War Metaphor Maps

Your group is responsible for creating ONE giant metaphor to explain the events leading
up to the Civil War. Your metaphor needs to be original, creative, and colorful. Your
academic task is to include all 11 events from the list below into your ONE metaphor.
Your representations do not need to be people or characters. They may be objects,
events, and places as long as they all come from the same story/movie/book/cartoon
etc.. You will be presenting your metaphor to the class, remember to use your
HISTORICAL THINKING SKILLS to explain the key events in the road to war. It will not be
enough to just mention them. You must make the CONNECTIONS between your
representation and the specific events.

clones to kill all the Jedi.
This led to a battle called

Dred Scott v. M- Dred Scott was a slave who left
Sanford Missouri and fled to Wisconsin where he
could be free
-he went back to Missouri after living in
Missouri for two years and sued for his
freedom stating that he had lived on
free soil for 2 years
-the case got taken to supreme court
where the majority of the court decided
against him including the democratic
chief of the court
-they decided against him because, he
was not a US citizen so he didnt have
the right to sue, since he was
technically property congress didnt
have the right to take away property
from someone and finally, living in
Wisconsin under the Missouri
Compromise was unconstitutional
-after the supreme court decided that
all of the west was open to slavery
-Northerners believed that Buchanan
and the supreme court made the dred
scott decision secretly with their
democratic thought
-this angered northerners and northern
democrats were in jeopardy of losing
their influence on popular sovereignty
Lincoln-Douglas M- Illinois senator debate between
Debates Douglas and Lincoln
-Douglas was more popular and well
known than Lincoln during the time
-Douglas was the last hope of saving
the union
-Lincoln was not an abolitionist but he
was against the expansion of slavery
-Republican Lincoln delivered the
famous House Divided speech which
made him seem radical
-Lincoln attacked Douglas in their
debates by addressing slavery as a
moral issue
-Douglass responded to Lincolns
remark about reconciling popular
sovereignty with the Freeport Doctrine
which was the first shots or
starting battle in a civil war
in the Star Wars galaxy.
Han Solo- This man was a
rebel to the T. he did
everything dangerous and
got away with it. He owed
Jabba the Hut a big debt
but ran away from him and
thought he would get off
free but then Jabba caught
him via bounty hunter and
brought him back meaning
even though he thought he
was free of his debt he
never was like dred scot
thinking he was free from
his masters but wasnt.
Jar jar binks- Jar jar relates
to lincoln in the lincoln
douglas debates. At first
he was a comic relief,
unimportant, clumsy, in the
way and unknown.
However after conflict
arose, Jar Jar just like
lincoln began to be seen as
an important character, an
ambassador. Like lincoln
who was once unknown
became the face of the
republican party.
 -The doctrine said that slavery couldnt
exist in a community if the citizens
didnt pass and enforce laws
-this angered the southern democrats
but Douglas still won reelection,
however Lincoln became a leading
contender in the Republican party
John Browns B - Brown wanted to start a major slave
Raid rebellion in the south but didnt have
much of a plan
-took the town of Harpers Ferry by force
but met resistance from townspeople
and militia
-troops led by Lee from Washington
captured Browns group and they were
hung
-rebellion turned brown into a martyr
and strengthened anti slave feelings
but made southerners angry
Election of B - candidate for the republican party
Lincoln in 1860
-his election caused southern states to
lean more towards secession
-faced off against stephen douglas who
repped democrats in the north and john
breckinridge for southern dems
Jango Fett- Jango fett was a
bounty hunter but he was
in on the rebellion against
the jedi brought up in order
66. However when he was
fighting, one of the jedi,
mace windu, caught and
killed him angering many
people including his son
boba fett who later sought
revenge. Like how John
brown tried to rebel and
got killed but became a
martyr and was avenged
by the north.
Palpatine- won the election
to become the chancery in
the galactic republic. This
was a highly debated
election and his winning
allowed for the empire to
increase power and
angered rebel forces
leading to fighting. Like
how lincolns election was
contested but when he won
the south lost their hope
and seceeded then boom
