Reflection: Term Paper

The word immigrant means someone that is in an area different from their place of origin.

So, the question is if everyone that is an immigrant has the same story? Through this assignment

this question was answered by comparing and contrasting minoritys experiences, such as

African Americans, Asian Americans, Latin Americans, and Natives Americans. The way their

experiences were compared and contrasted is by using early history, discrimination, segregation,

laws, violence, treaties, wars, economic statues, gender, and sexuality.

These terms were all used to thoroughly analyze the experiences that each minority group

has gone through. For starts, the history of each of these minority groups has had a great impact

to how they live their lives till this day. For example, African Americans were imported as

slaves, treated as property to be bought and sold, and considered less than human for much of

history. This has shaped their lives because till this day African Americans are still fighting

against all the problems that have developed because of slavery. On to discrimination, all of

these minorities have to deal with this as part of their day to day life. Research shows that

minorities such as Blacks, Latinos, and Natives have a hard time to obtain white-collar jobs such

as positions as managers or higher than low-wage jobs. Unlike like Asians which are stereotyped

as being dedicated, educated, smart, and productive people to society. By having these

stereotypes, Asians are most likely at times to obtain higher positioned job, one that is suitable

for a white person, than other minorities. Whites tend to blame minorities for such issues as an
economic down fall. They tend to believe that the economy is going to a rough patch because of

minorities. Not realizing that they themselves play a major part in it by being racist towards

minorities. Whites sit at the top of the economic pyramid making them superior to everyone else

this is called white supremacy. The reasoning that whites are at the time is because they took

everything away from all other minorities, such as Native Americans. In doing so they have

generations of inheritance in which makes whites forever superior to all other races. Just how

whites are superior to everyone else, white males or males in general are superior to women. A

woman in society faces multiple issues just because of her gender, such as being discriminated in

jobs, school, and even in their own family because according to society a woman belongs at

home doing household labor, not working or becoming educated.

In conclusion, many factors have played a role in the struggles that minorities have faced.

The biggest one being white-supremacy because if Whites were more accepting of other

ethnicities than there is the possibility that minorities would not struggles so much. Looking back

at this assignment it made me realize that everyone has their own story of how they got to where

they are today. In comparing and contrasting their stories I realized that no minority has had an

easy run, but they have all overcame multiple struggles.
