1. Standards/Quality Indicators/Skills
Missouri and national standards, quality indicators, and skills addressed by this lesson
7.RI. 1.A
7.RI.2.B
5. Instructional Strategies
Teacher approach to helping students achieve the learning objectives (goals) and meet their needs
Day 1: Introduction to the lesson, direct instruction, and guided instruction.
Day 2: Independent practice and bonus point challenge.
Teacher will walk around the room each day and help the student in any way possible.
6. Learning Activities
Opportunities provided for students to develop knowledge and skills of the learning objectives (goals)
Students will use their iPads in order to research all forms of the 8 parts of speech. I am hoping as
they do other classroom assignments they will start to naturally point them out themselves.
8. Technology
Instructional and/or assistive technology incorporated into the lesson to enhance instruction and student
learning
Teacher will use computer/projector in order to show presentation. Students can research on their
iPads the 8 parts of speech if they need any further help after direct instruction.
9. Differentiation/Accommodations/Modifications/Increase in Rigor
To help meet the needs of all learners, learning differences, cultural and language differences, etc.
--Hattie will have her aid on hand in case she needs extra help due to dyslexia she will also have a
little bit more time to finish the assignment. I do not want her to feel rushed.
--Skye will be placed in the two person group with Millie. Millie tends to be shy and with Skye
previously being home schooled so I feel as though this pairing will be beneficial for both students.
--Alex: once he is finished and feels good about his work I want him to walk around the room and
offer help to any of his classmates that need a little extra help. He is so smart that often times he
has nothing in common with his classmates. I am hoping this helps him to get to know the others
and vice versa.
--Once we are finished I would love to give Matteo a chance to speak to his fellow classmates about
the 8 parts of speech in Spanish. I think it would be refreshing for him and the other students.
---John and Michael will be paired up. They are both intelligent young men but Michael, because of
his autism tends to get off course a tad bit. John is my classroom leader and can take charge in a
non threatening way.
---Students will be provided with brief notes and examples of facts and opinion to take home and
keep. Font will be larger for students who require bigger font due to poor eye sight.
---Students will also be able to find notes online with audio.
---Students can choose how they present their activity and bonus point opportunity in a way that
allows them to use their creativeness.
10. Classroom Management
Strategies consistent with the learning needs of the lesson that also meet student behavior needs to help
keep students on task and actively engaged
---Teacher will state consistent in what is desired on activities and due dates. Students are to finish
activities before leaving class and if they are having trouble are encouraged to ask the teacher for
help or gain help from peers.
---Students must run their bonus point sentence by the teacher first in order to make sure its right
and appropriate. If sentence is not appropriate the student will be reprimanded.
11. Extensions
Activities for early finishers that extend students understanding of and thinking about the learning
objectives (goals) by applying their new knowledge in a different way
If students finish early they can have extra time to check over their work and work on other
classroom assignments. If they have no other assignments they can read their library book quietly.
There are books in the back they can check out from classroom if they need a book. The groups of
two students assigned can also use that time to help each other out should one need a little extra
help.
