5. Completely describe the Nominal Group Technique as demonstrated during class (what it is
used for and steps involved), and provide an advantage/benefit of this technique in the group
decision making process.
The Nominal Group Technique is a structured brainstorming mechanism that encourages each
group member to contribute ideas.
Steps
1. State the problem/ need.
2. Brainstorm individually
3. Form small groups
4. Collaborate ideas to make the best solution.
5. Share ideas.
6. Each individual ranks best to worst solution.
7. Choose the best solution.
The advantage of this technique is that everyone has the opportunity to voice their opinions
and great ideas usually form and can be collaborated. This is also a good technique to use
when there is a time restraint, because it is usually done quickly.

While taking this class, I have explored the true meaning of a leader. To be a leader does not
always mean, being it charge. It is someone who sets standards for others to follow and
admire. I have learned a lot about my leadership and teamwork skills through the Leadership
Style Assessment and Interpersonal Skills Self- Assessment and in ISE 121 with Ms. Vinson, I

learned about my true colors. I am intrapersonal at first, but when I get to know someone, I am
an extrovert. This is a weakness because in group projects, I will not always have time to get to
know someone. In a group, I sometimes find myself taking charge and doing most of the work. I
do this because I am a perfectionist and like things done my way. I need to improve my ability to
trust team members and delegating tasks. I do this as a leader, as well. However, I am very hard-
working and encouraging to team members. I am extremely honest and will let them know when
something is wrong, but I can do this politely. I stand by my integrity and as a leader, this is
extremely important. According to the true colors test, my true color is gold which means that I
am open, honest, genuine, and a planner. I feel like these characteristics ensure the longevity of a
leader.
