Welcome Fall with a FREE concert on the Greenway
by acclaimed folk artist Me and Martha, whose perfor-
mances include traditional folk music, audience sing-
alongs, guitar, banjo, autoharp, mountain dulcimer, stand
up and a one-string pickin’ tub bass. The audience is led
on an enjoyable journey though the music of the early set-
tlers to today’s musical expressions. Bring the whole fam-
ily and don’t forget your lawn chairs and blankets!

Tours of The Caboose
at the Warrenton Greenway
All Ages Welcome!
Families can enjoy an imaginary trip back in time at the
Old Warrenton Train Station. Tours and historical train infor-
mation are presented by the Friends of the Warrenton Caboose
from 9:00am–11:00am the first Saturday of every month from
April through October. Registration is not required.

Track Talk at the Warrenton Caboose


On Saturday September 4 from 9:00-10:00 am, the Fauquier County Parks and Recreation Department will host the final Track
Talk this year, presented by the Friends of the Warrenton Caboose. This talk is free to the public and will be held at the Caboose
on the Warrenton Branch Greenway trail head on South Fourth Street.
Climb aboard and hear stories about what it was like to live and work on the railroad caboose. Tour inside the caboose and then
watch a demonstration of how to use track tools to construct and maintain railroad tracks of years gone by. Youngsters can help
throw a working switch and experience the steps in laying down a track. You also can operate a working track signal.

Environmental Education and Historical Interpretation Field Trips
Wow! In the past year, over 2000 children participated in one of the many environmental or historical programs offered
through Parks & Recreation. Programs are offered at C.M. Crockett Park in Midland (environmental), and Monroe Park in
Goldvein (historical). Many of the programs are designed to meet the Virginia Standards of Learning. The cost is reasonable at
only $3 per student per activity. Call one of the parks for more detailed information.

This popular fall event is a great opportunity to view the
stars, constellations, galaxies, and other objects that light up
the night skies. There will be nearly 100 telescopes available
for viewing. Beginning at 3:00 pm, special videos, slide shows,
and speakers will be featured. Wear weather appropriate cloth-
ing. Registration is not required. This event is free to Fauquier
County residents. Admission for non-county residents is $6 per

Learn the parts of a compass, how to use a topographic map,
and how to make the two work for you ‘on the ground.’ Practice
on a beginner course and learn how to measure distances with
pacing. Then test your skills on an advanced course with an in-
structor nearby to help you. Map & Compass (or Orienteering)
is a fun and valuable skill even with today’s fashionable GPS’s
on the market.

Historical
This is an introductory class for those with no skills. What
better way to enjoy the fall than to introduce the sport of Golf
into your child’s life! This class will not only teach the basics of
Golf but most importantly, etiquette, discipline, integrity and
honor of the sport. The basics of Golf will be taught such as the
proper way to grip the Golf club, how to aim, swing, and putting
on the green. Our goal is to spark your child’s interest and have
the enthusiasm to continue their knowledge of the sport. “It will
bring out your child’s competitive edge.”
