1. Name of Activity: Playing with Playdough

2. Age Group: 3 - 5
3. Time of the day: Small Group
4. Missouri Preschool Standard: Physical Development 2a: Performs fine motor tasks
5. Objective: Students can strengthen and develop fine motor skills using playdough.
6. Materials: Play dough, rolling pins, cookie cutters, plastic knives
7. Procedure: The teacher will call the students over to the table for small group time. The
teacher will introduce the playdough to the students. Students will watch as the teacher
demonstrates what you can do with playdough. She will roll it to be flat and use a cookie
cutter or a knife to cut out a shape. Then she will let the students work on their own and
create their own shape. While they are working the teacher will ask them questions to
assess them. And to wrap up the activity they will go around the table and share one
thing that they created.
8. Assessment: While they are working with they playdough during small group the teacher
will walk around asking them questions. Some examples could be asking what they
made, what the shape was, if they used a cookie cutter, why that made that, or how did
they make what they made.
9. Extensions: During work time the teacher will keep the playdough and the materials out
so they can extend their development of fine motor skills.

3. Time of the day: Small Group
4. Missouri Preschool Standard: Patterns and Relationships 2c: Creates Patterns
5. Objective: Students can create their own pattern using beads
6. Materials: Beads and string

the beads on the string. Her pattern is red, blue, blue, red, blue, blue. She asks the
students what her pattern is and they answer. Then she gives them beads and a string
and lets them create their own pattern. She will observe and ask questions to assess
them while they work. Then to wrap up the activity they will go around the table to share
their pattern.
8. Assessment: To assess the students the teacher will observe them while they are
making their pattern and make sure they are being consistent in their pattern. The
teacher will also ask questions. For example, what is their pattern or what makes that a

1. Name of Activity: Solving Problems

2. Age Group: 3 - 5
3. Time of the Day: Small Group Time
4. Missouri Preschool Standard: Approaches to Learning 6c - Works with others to solve
problems - Offers solutions to a conflict with another child
5. Objective: Students should be able to work with others to solve problems.
6. Materials: Piece of paper and a marker
7. Procedure: The teacher calls the students over for small group time. The teacher will
write a problem at the top of the paper, which could be related to a recent problem they
have had in the class. This particular example is: When Sharing Toys. The teacher will
then ask the students how they could solve that problem and write down their ideas.
They should solve these problems mostly on their own but some solutions could be:
giving a portion of the materials to their friend, they could wait until they are finished,
they could work together with the materials, or they could decide to work with something
else and let their friend use their toys. The teacher will then wrap up the lesson by going
over what they wrote and saying that they are all great ideas. And then the paper will be
hung up on the wall to reference later when they might have that problem.
8. Assessment: To check to see if the students have learned the objective, the teacher will
see if the students come up with good ideas to solve the conflict and if they can solve a
conflict on their own based on the ideas they just came up with.
9. Extensions: During work time, if the students have a problem with sharing, they can
extend their learning by working with their friend to solve the problem on their own.
