This WebQuest asks students to dive into the world and language of William Shakespeare. It is a close look at the
play Romeo and Juliet and an exploration of timeless love. Throughout this WebQuest students will immerse
themselves into the Elizabethan era and explore themes of love, life, and death, as they navigate through
Shakespearean language and problem-solve to creatively recreate their own Shakespearean scene.
Introduction
You are a Modern Shakespeare and recreating an alternate ending to Act V Scene III of William Shakespeares
Romeo and Juliet. You can either rewrite the original ending or create a revamped modern version. After a long
standing feud between the Capulets and Montagues, Romeo and Juliets love tragically ends when Romeo decides to
commit suicide, after he sees Juliet dead. Juliet reawakens as Romeo is dying and then stabs herself. Both families
are left heartbroken. After reading Romeo and Juliet as a class, we now focus on the play's ending. What would
happen in a modern version of Romeo and Juliet? What could have happened differently? Was there something that
Shakespeare missed? Do Romeo and Juliet have to die?
The Task
You will spend time rereading Romeo and Juliet, Act V Scene III, as well as watch a few Video Clip from the scene. To
deepen your familiarity with literary devices you will take a quick Quiz with Google Forms. You will then create a
Character Outline to further understand the nuance, language, and character types. All of this will set the stage for
your final product where you be asked to recreate your own ending to Romeo and Juliet. After youve completed your
story, you and your teammates will read each other's alternate ending, and give feedback on each others blog post.
You will then write a brief Journal Entry summarizing your learning and experience.
Make sure to read the Evaluation section before you begin so that you know what is expected from your work. Good
luck and have fun!
