1. Uniformity standard measuring including tangential force variation

2. Radial- and lateral run-out with roller scanning (4 sensors)
3. Radial and lateral run-out for measuring rims (4 sensors)

Tire measuring / accessories

o Measuring rims from 13" 20" (step rims with 2 steps each)
o Rim and tire holding fixture with different centering diameters (the diameters
requested have to be specified)

The mechanic of the machine was constructed by the company Hofmann. The
machine was upgraded and modernized in 2004. After the modification tires up to a
diameter of 20 can be measured. (amplifications are possible).

The positioning system for radial- and lateral run-out sensors is maintained.

Mechanical design of the machine

The load wheel is built into a solid carriage by means of two three-component load
cells. The carriage is adjusted with a ball-type linear drive and a DC drive. The
bearings of the load wheel are greased hydraulically.

Measuring rims and rim width

The machine is equipped with Stepp rims according to the list below. The rim width
adjustment is carried out automatically. The rim width adjustment is stored in the test
plan and activated.

Test run
The tire is transported to the machine by means of an conveyor belt and moved to
the holding fixture with a lifting table (equipped with two conveyor belts) . There the
tire is centered. Then the lifting table is lowered and the tire is placed on the holding
fixture.

The rim top which is pre-adjusted to the rim width is lowered with the holding fixture,
locked and the tire is filled with air.

The load wheel is regulated according to the contact force given in the test plan and
the radial- and lateral run-out sensors are moved forward. The recording of the
measuring values is done during one rotation. All measuring values determined are
displayed on the graphic user interface and evaluated according to the marginal
conditions. The machine is set back into the starting position, the tire measured is
fed-out and a new tre can be fed-in.

Wheel measuring
The machine has to be converted for the wheel measuring. The lower holding fixture
is dismantled and the basic holding fixture for wheels is mounted. The wheel is fixed
with wheel bolts on top of a centering ring which is replaced according to the
centering diameter requested.

Rim measuring
For the rim measuring the same holding fixture is used. The radial- and lateral run-
out sensors are exchanged for run-out sensors with rolls (rim measuring according to
DIN 7118). The rim is fixed with wheel bolts. There is the possibility to exchange the
holding fixture for a quick-action clamping device.

Electric and measuring technique

Control unit
The machine is controlled with a control unit type Siemens S7 PLC. The control unit,
the drive controller, electric contactors and terminals are stored in a switching
cabinet. The communication between control unit and measuring computer is carried
out by PROFIbus. The command input and the display of the actuators is made with
a OP 27.

The following regulations and guidelines are observed:
EC low voltage guideline
EMW guideline
The following norms are observed:
EN 60204, EN 292, UVV VBG 1,4,5, possible customer specific regulations. The
machine will be delivered with a CE declaration of conformity.

Measuring system

Analogue devices
For the operation of the measuring bridges in the load cells there is an input amplifier
which decouples and amplifies the signals of the strain gauges and supplies the
measuring bridges with voltage.

All curves and measuring values are stored in a SQL data base and can be used for
evaluation as long as they are not cancelled explicitly.
All printable protocols can be stored a pdf files alternatively. The export of result values
for further evaluation and/or bookkeeping is possible in csv (comma separated values)
format. CSV files can be easily imported into other data bases or spreadsheet programs.
If the measuring computer is connected to the LAN network the network access can be
configured in different manner:

NFS (network file system) as client and/or server

SMB (server message block) as client and/or server
(the protocol which is usually used for the file server access in MS Windows)

Repeatability of measured values

To check the repeatability of the measured values the following items have to be
observed:
o The tire should have a RVF of 100 N and a 1st harmonic of about 80N.

To achieve the values below safely, the measurements have to be carried out in one
direction of rotation, once right-hand rotation, once left-hand rotation. If the tests are
carried out in both directions, only the right-hand rotation is evaluated for the
determination of the standard deviation.
Otherwise flat spot influences of the tire could influence the measuring values during
the left-hand rotation. The test tires are checked with an air pressure of 0,2 Mpa.

LFV 2.5 N
CON 2.5 N
