Looking at the pre-assessment and post-assessment data for
Reasoning, I am proud that in the end more than half of the students met the target, since at the beginning less than half did. This shows me that the instruction in between assessments was useful for students. I feel much better ending on a 63% than on the 33% at the start. Still, I am overall unsatisfied with my results. Only 42% of students grew in their learning. As someone who values growth mindset, I would love to see that number even higher than the number of students who met the target. I think part of the reason this number is so low is due to the fact that 6 students did not sufficiently complete the first assessment and 5 did not sufficiently complete the next. Completing both assessments is essential to gain practice and to accurately judge students skills. Next time, I will hold students more accountable for completion. Recently, I had students with incomplete work come in to work at lunch. This strategy could be useful. When students do not produce during class despite support and refocusing, I may recruit administration to talk with students about the expectations at school. Motiving students who are unwilling to work has been my biggest challenge of the semester, and I believe if I could hold all students accountable the numbers from my next data set would showcase more positive results.
