Chemical Researcher Community in the University of Arizona

Katherine Zhao, a chemical researcher in the University of Arizona, was walking wearily

under the dim moonlight in the school. Even though Katherine looked exhausted, when asked

about her chemical research, she talked about it excitedly and smilingly. By seizing a chance to

interview Katherine and listen to her narration, more information about the chemical researchers

who are the students devoting their lives to figure out the chemical problems at the laboratory in

the University of Arizona will be introduced.

The place the chemical researchers work is the chemical laboratory in the University of

Arizona. Different from other chemical laboratories where the researchers are asked to follow the

procedures and are limited to do experiments they want (Ibrahim Nor Hasniza, 2014), the

Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry provided a totally free place and synergistic

opportunities for students to do researches. (College of Science & Medicine Tucson, 2005)

Because of the advanced equipment at the chemical laboratory, students can study the topic

which theyre interested in and do the experiments they want, which is the reason why they are

willing to stay in laboratory. My friend, Katherine Zhao, who described the chemical laboratory

was a magical place, where I live with my dream (Katherine Zhao, 2017), is one of these

chemical researchers.
Liang 2

As people know, the topic the chemical researchers study and the experiments they do are

really complex. In the photo Katherine Zhao showed, there are rows of test tubes and advanced

instruments on the table, and several chemical researchers stand in front of the table, wearing

white lab coats, pay all attentions to their experiments. Like most chemical researchers,

Katherine Zhao spends all free time on her chemical experiment at the laboratory in the

University of Arizona. Although there are lots of classes and assignments, she still spends nearly

five hours on her research every day. In order to finish her experiment and draw the conclusion

more quickly, even sometimes she doesnt have enough time to get something to eat or drink,

and sleep. According to Katherine Zhao, her experiment is exploring the movement of the

particles which have different concentrations in different temperatures and the objective of her

experiment is to provide an example for a theory called vapor-mediated sensing, which is a really

complex chemical topic. There was no doubt that Katherine faced to lots of difficulties when she

did her experiment. Even though its really hard and challenging to control the temperature

during the experiment, she never gives up, which shows that the great spirit of a good chemical

researcher (Katherine Zhao, 2017).

By interviewing Katherine Zhao and observing her busy life, it cant be denied that

chemical researchers are energetic and passionate about their studies, no matter how difficult the

experiments will be. In other words, the chemical researchers studies and efforts are

outstanding. Even though the members in this chemical researcher community are students in the

University of Arizona, which means they still have lots of knowledge to learn and have not made

big influences on Chemistry, they still keep making great efforts. When the chemical researchers

face to some problems, they discuss it with professor, then solve it by themselves. Although its a

long and complex process, they try it again and again, until the difficulties are defeated. They

insist on studying chemical projects and never give up. They make contributions to Chemistry

and human future without taking good care of themselves. Whats more, they spend their lives on

Chemistry and expect nothing in return, which is admirable and impressive. Therefore, the

chemical researcher community in the University of Arizona should be shown to everyone.
