Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements

According to the accredited four year universities in Nevada, it is mandated that a

student who is pursuing a Bachelors degree in education take the Praxis Core Exam.

Admission into University of Nevada, Nevada State College, or University of Nevada

Las Vegas education program are contingent upon the applicant successfully passing their

Praxis Core Exam. Each state has their own test scores requirement. In Nevada, you must

take math, reading and writing. In order to obtain a passing score, you must acquire a 150

on math, 156 on reading, and a 162 on writing.

Exam Preparation

However, preparation is critical to ensure success on the Praxis Core Exam. I

talked to a few coworkers about their experiences taking the test and asked if they could

offer any advice to me. Getting their input gave me an idea how I would study for the

exam. I decided to go onto the Clark County Library website and look up Praxis study

guide books. I found two books that contained math, reading and writing. I reserved the

books and had them sent to the closest library to my house. I started off by reading about

the exam getting an understanding of what to expect on the test. Once I had the basic

knowledge of the test, I began studying twice a week for a few hours. After taking the

practice tests I realized that I was struggling in math. One of my friends offered me

assistance on the math practice exams. I checked out two more Praxis study guides that

focused entirely on the math portion. I did not take the Education Testing Services

practice questions. Finally, I made the choice to wait until the end of this year to take the

Praxis Core Exam. The majority of my coworkers attempted the Praxis at least twice

before obtaining a passion score. I want to feel confident and ready for the exam.

Exam Results

In math, I scored in the 74% range, which means that Im borderline to pass the

math section when I take the official Praxis Core Exam. In reading, I scored in the 46%

range, which means I need improvements to pass the reading section when I take the

official Praxis Core Exam. In writing, I scored in the 73% range, which means that Im

borderline to pass the writing section when I take the official Praxis Core Exam.

Future Exam Preparation

These practice test have been an eye-opener to me. In the future, I will take the

praxis test online, work with a tutor, and take any Praxis Core Review classes offered by

Nevada State College. Implementation of these steps will help me become one step closer

to passing the Praxis Core Exam and ultimately closer to obtaining admission into

Nevada State Collage to help the children of the future.
