Name: Hannah Miller

Directions: Using the template below, describe how students could use a blog, wiki, or other website-
creation tool to learn required learning standards in your content area: For an A grade provide an idea that
reaches a Level of Technology Implementation of 4 or above. Remember higher levels (4-6) require that
students assume adult/professional roles; engage in higher-order thinking; and use technology create/publish
original content for their classmates and/or others beyond their school/classroom. The learning activities and
products should be engaging and meaningful to the students and to others who will view/use/benefit from
students work. Review your handouts on Engaged Learning, Authenticity, and LoTi.

S4E1. Students will compare and contrast the physical attributes of stars, star patterns, and planets.

Brief Description of Learning Experience:

Students will visit the class blog, specifically the Flipped Classroom page, where they will find an
assignment to do at home. They will be asked to watch a video that was created by the teacher, myself, and
have an assignment following. They will learn about the assignment through listening to the audio recording
providing instructions on what to do. They will have to either create, or draw a picture of their favorite
planet, and bring their work to school with them on Monday to share with the class.

The students have the freedom to simply draw a picture of their favorite planet because not all students may
have the resources needed to create a model. However, if they do, they can use those materials such as
paper, plastics, paint, styrofoam etc. to make a model of the planet they have chosen. This assignment may
take students anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour. That depends on what the child chooses to do to create
their favorite planet.

Student Engagement/Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): What LoTi would this lesson be and
Why?
The LoTi this lesson would achieve would be a LoTi 3. The learning experience is student centered,
students assume the professional role, the students are creating a product that is interesting and meaningful,
and the students are sharing their product with other students in the classroom.

WEBSITE AND CLASSROOM BLOG CREATION TOOLS
Importance of technology:
Without the use of this website creation tool, I would not be able to communicate with my students beyond
the classroom. This tool gives me a platform to post my original work for my students to view and interact
with, such as the video and audio file, containing instructions for the assignment. Without these things, the
project would not be possible.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:

The blog is set up in a way that only the students and parents can access it by password. This allows for the
students to safely access the blog whenever possible, with parent permission.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.

My personal learning goal for this activity is to introduce the students to planets found in our solar system,
and to being learning attributes of them. I have never created my own video for the students to view, much
less recorded an audio file containing instructions for an activity, but I was very excited to do so.
